What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at WATERFORD SURGICAL CENTER?
A. Assists with the admission process by directing patients from lobby to their private suite, collecting selected assessment data, assisting with pre-operative surgical preparation, applying necessary equipment, performing vital signs and point of care testing.
B. Prepares patient/family for discharge by gathering equipment, education materials, pharmaceutical supplies, etc. and transports patient as necessary.
C. Provides oral fluid/snack post operatively to patients and families when appropriate.
D. Provides basic medical treatments including: basic blood glucose monitoring, urine pregnancy tests, respiratory care, monitoring of vital signs, recognition of life threatening conditions with initial responses and documentation on the patient record.
E. Assists with the provision of patient education as defined by patient teaching protocol according to WSC guidelines.
F. Assists with pre-operative calls to patients.
G. Works alongside RN and performs duties as requested. Reports patient care incidents and changes in patient condition to the RN in a timely fashion.
H. Participates in maintenance of stock and ordering of necessary materials.
I. Demonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission of the Waterford Surgical Center through performing behaviors consistent with the WSC values.
J. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations, including the Standards of Conduct, Code of Ethics, HIPAA, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behaviors.
K. Supports and conducts one's self in a manner consistent with customer service expectations.
L. Maintains appropriate skill level through completion of required competencies and Annual Mandatory Education.
