CNC Lathe Set-Up Machinists and Operators
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate machines with a wide variety of materials and sizes parts for a wide variety of materials and sizes using blue print drawings. Understand GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing). Perform in-process inspections.
- Observe and implement lean manufacturing methods within the department.
- Make sure quality is consistently maintained and parts and tools are loaded correctly throughout the job.
- Take care of all tooling issues by recognizing tool wear and replacing or changing worn tools.
- Provide machining support in the production of parts that range in size from miniature to very large.
- Maintain a clean/orderly work area and pay attention to detail.
- Help troubleshoot issues with equipment and product including reworks.
- Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required.
Set Up:
Perform complex setups required to manufacture parts and be responsible for the production of high precision parts. Prepares CNC controller, including fixture or part zeros and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, proving part programs. Sets-up lathes by installing and adjusting, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, and stops; indicating holders and custom fixtures; loads and adjusts bar feeder. Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces; adhering to Waterstone’s internal standards. Maintains batch specifications by observing milling, drilling, grooving, and cutting; thread cutting and tapping operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes. Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; notify supervisor for repairs.

- 3 years of experience
