What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Teaching Assistant - Waterville Elementary School position at Waterville Elementary School?
The Teaching Assistant shall assist the Teacher in planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of children within a safe, healthy learning environment. The Teaching Assistant shall encourage the involvement of the families of the children of the program and support the development of relationships between children and their families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
●Utilize appropriate language, interactions, and positive discipline
●Model positive behavior
●Assist in instructing and supervising children in classroom activities
●Continuously monitor children to ensure safety at all times, and report child abuse and neglect when necessary
●Assess children on a regular basis – take pictures and maintain anecdotal notes, written observations, and other approved forms of documentation for each child
●Research, plan, and develop age appropriate activities for lesson plans in conjunction with the Teacher
●Maintain open communication with parents
●Design and complete documentation panels for the classroom and hallways
●Complete all necessary paperwork for the classroom activities including attendance, in a timely manner
●Participate in team meetings. Communicate and share ideas and concerns with Teacher, Director and other team members
●Participate in continuing education and professional development activities
Education and Related Work Experience
●Training in child development education, teaching in or equivalent early childhood programs/elementary programs and evidence of successful experiences
●Criminal background check required for hire and annually thereafter
●Complete a 45 hour Course in Fundamentals of Early Childhood Education or a 3 credit college course in a related field
●Experience teaching in a childcare center preferred
●Certification in CPR and First Aid

●Early Childhood Development knowledge and experience
●Good communication, problem solving, and priority setting skills as well as maintaining an overall positive and professional attitude/disposition
●Ability to effectively plan, organize and implement educational activities
●Must be able to maintain confidential information
●Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency a 40 pound child
Work Environment
●Employees in this position will be required to work indoors and/or outdoors in an educational and standard environment. Employees may come in contact with students, parents, outside agency staff, and the public. The employee may come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious, and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff and themselves.
