Construction Accountant
Watson Civil Construction, Inc. is a heavy/highway contractor working throughout Florida specializing in large site infrastructure, underground, and road work. We are currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Construction Accountant to join our dynamic team. The Construction Accountant will play a crucial role in supporting the financial operations of the company and ensuring accurate accounting practices are maintained.
Job Duties:
- Assist monthly closing tasks and related journal entries
- Conduct periodic accounts payable internal audits to ensure compliance
- Communicating regularly with the Controller on status of projects, costs, changes, etc.
- Developing, implementing, improving, and enforcing budgets, policies and department controls to increase accuracy and efficiency
- Creating and importing spreadsheets, budgets and reports among various software applications
- Make certain that billings comply with and conform to the contract terms
- Oversee asset management of the company fleet and equipment including acquisition, disposal, depreciation schedules, etc.
- Ensure intercompany transactions from related parties are properly recorded
- Coordinate the monthly process to record accurate and timely cost to complete on construction projects
- Manage equipment cost module and ensure that equipment costs are properly charged to jobs
- Monthly review of job cost activity ensuring consistent and proper entries
- Assist in the preparation of company financial reporting requirements
- Work with the executive team to strategize and set processes and procedures to obtain financial goals
- Ensure adherence to GAAP
- Interaction with outside vendors
- Act as back-up for payroll administrator
- Assist with ad-hoc projects and other support tasks when necessary
Desired qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related
- 3 years of accounting experience with substantial knowledge of cost accounting principles and functions
- 3 years of construction accounting experience
- Advanced Excel skills with proficiency in the suite of Office 365 products; knowledge of Viewpoint Spectrum is preferred
- Ability to work independently and complete duties and projects with little direct supervision
- Experience working for a Heavy Civil Contractor is desired
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of internal and external customers
