Position Summary
The Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventative maintenance requirements, correcting vehicle deficiencies, making adjustments and alignments, and keeping records.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs all work in accordance with schedules, policies, procedures and standards of quality and safety.
- Assures safety standards are met.
- Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests and identifying worn and damaged parts.
- Document repairs needed, and submit repair orders to the Shop Manager for parts requisition
- Determine the best method for repairs, whether in the shop or in the field
- Receive parts deliveries and deliver shipping tickets and invoices to Shop Manager
- Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades and controlling corrosion.
- Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts or systems.
- Makes alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, hydraulics, pneumatic and traction units.
- Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems.
- Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
- Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing and painting.
- Maintains accurate vehicle records via maintenance software (Manager )
- Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance.
- Must continue to update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical journals and regulation publications.
- Maintains and assures cleanliness and neatness of shop area.
- Must be willing to learn how to operate different equipment, cranes, areal lift trucks, skids steer, among other equipment. Demonstrate proficiency prior to independently operating any equipment.

Position Requirements and Education
- Requires a vocational/technical diploma; and 2 years experience as a diesel mechanic doing fleet maintenance and repair; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must have a valid driver's license (Class C) to occasionally drive non-commercial vehicles. Must be insurable. A clean driving record including no DWI or major violations in the last two years. Must have dependable transportation to and from the work place.
- Should be willing to get CDL within 6 months of hire. Watts Electric will assist in training.

Must be able to use up to 35 pounds of force occasionally. Employee will be required to lift 35 pounds frequently and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Direct frontal reaching is required. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Employees are required to wear protective safety gear, ear protection, and eye protection.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and possible extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. There are some chemical exposures that are part of performing the job.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
This position is located in Waverly, Nebraska and requires minimal travel. Normal schedule is Monday – Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pay will be determined based upon experience.
