Special Education Paraprofessional

 

Special education paraprofessionals will support students in the K-5 Inclusion Program at the Webster School.


Required Experience:

  • High school degree or higher.
  • Enjoys working with children and is dedicated to the education of all children

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with children in schools, child care settings, or camps.
  • Experience working with children with diverse student needs.
  • Experience working in an urban district.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking in another language in addition to English.
     

Essential Duties:

  • Provide general support for a classroom or classrooms that support inclusive and culturally sustaining instruction.
  • Provide academic support and carry over the lessons the teacher and special education teacher have developed.
  • Provide all accommodations delineated within a student's designated IEP/504.
  • Implement modifications developed by the classroom teacher and/or Special Education teacher.
  • Develop materials based on specific instruction from the classroom and/or Special Education teachers.
  • Create opportunities and instruct students to be independent in various settings across their school day.
  • Support classrooms and students in multiple/different classroom grade levels.
  • Implement behavioral/social support plans to support the social-emotional learning needs within the classroom to individual students or groups of students (including but not limited to attending, non-compliance, completion of tasks, following rules and classroom expectations).
  • Provide small- or whole-group assistance within the classroom, including the needs of students with disabilities and multilingual learners. 
  • Engage individual and small groups of learners in instructional activities.
  • Share relevant learner information with teachers and other school personnel to facilitate problem-solving, decision-making, and program planning.
  • Support students in accessing a variety of technologies.
  • Complete all required documentation related to incidents, accidents, discipline, assault, etc.
  • Complete data collection related to academic functioning/student performance that supports instruction.
  • Facilitate positive relationships and engagements with peers.
  • Support students with the organization of materials, assignments, and schedules.
  • Based on the student population and census, they may be assigned to different buildings.
  • Ensure that all accommodations outlined in the IEPs are implemented based on student needs.
  • Support students during their specials, lunch, and recess times.
  • Facilitate and support arrival and dismissal times.
  • Maintain student confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities the Principal or designee assigns.

 Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively.
  • The employee must frequently stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and run.
  • The employee must occasionally be able to lift and/or move children/objects.
  • The employee must be able to work in a noisy, stressful, high-pressure environment and still be able to concentrate and keep children safe.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies (e.g., injured student, fights, behavior problems, abusive students, etc).
  • May be exposed to bodily fluids, including saliva, urine, feces, vomit, blood, and/or other bodily fluids.
  • The job is performed under conditions with exposure to the risk of injury and/or illness, although in a clean environment.
  • May assist medically fragile or physically disabled students in maintaining their hygiene.
  • Assist students with physical and/or cognitive disabilities with grooming, feeding, toileting, and diapering.

Salary:
The salary for this position will be based on the Everett Teachers Association (Unit D).
