Aerial Outside Plant (OSP) Technician

Job Summary:

The Aerial OSP Technician at Wecom Fiber is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications and fiber optic infrastructure in aerial environments. Expertise in aerial fiber optic installations, cable management, and network connectivity will play a crucial role in expanding and maintaining telecommunications services in various locations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install aerial telecommunications and fiber optic cables, hardware, and equipment on utility poles, towers, and overhead structures to establish network connectivity and expand telecommunications services.
• Perform aerial fiber optic cable splicing, termination, and testing activities to ensure proper signal transmission, connectivity, and performance in telecommunications and fiber networks.
• Inspect and maintain aerial OSP infrastructure, including cables, connectors, and support structures, to identify potential issues, damage, or degradation and initiate corrective actions.
• Coordinate with engineering teams, project managers, and field technicians to plan and execute aerial OSP projects, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety regulations, and project timelines.
• Troubleshoot aerial fiber optic network issues, conduct aerial OSP surveys, and perform aerial route assessments to optimize network design, cable placement, and aerial fiber management.
• Document aerial OSP installations, splicing activities, maintenance records, and network configurations to maintain accurate records, as-built documentation, and network diagrams for future reference.
• Adhere to safety protocols, PPE requirements, and industry best practices for working at heights, handling aerial equipment, and ensuring the safety of personnel during aerial OSP operations.
• Utilize aerial fiber optic installation tools, equipment, and hardware to mount, secure, and manage aerial telecommunications and fiber optic cables in overhead environments.
• Perform fiber optic fusion splicing, connectorization, and fiber management techniques in aerial OSP installations to ensure reliable connectivity and signal integrity.
• Conduct optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) testing, power measurements, and signal loss assessments to verify the performance and quality of aerial fiber optic networks.
• Interpret aerial OSP design plans, fiber optic schematics, and network layouts to implement accurate cable routing, splicing points, and aerial fiber management strategies.
• Follow aerial OSP engineering guidelines, telecommunications specifications, and industry standards for aerial fiber optic installations, cable handling, and aerial network design.
• Collaborate with telecommunications teams, contractors, and stakeholders to coordinate aerial OSP activities, resolve technical issues, and ensure project objectives are met.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; certification in telecommunications, fiber optics, or related field is preferred.
• Proven experience as an Aerial OSP Technician in the telecommunications and fiber industry, with expertise in aerial fiber optic installations, splicing, and network maintenance.
• Ability to work at heights, handle aerial equipment, and perform aerial OSP tasks in outdoor environments with a focus on safety, efficiency, and quality.
• Proficiency in aerial fiber optic installation tools, fusion splicers, OTDRs, and fiber management techniques to perform aerial OSP activities effectively.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and technical aptitude to troubleshoot aerial fiber optic network issues, optimize network performance, and ensure network reliability.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and adaptability to work in dynamic aerial OSP environments, collaborate with project teams, and support telecommunications and fiber network expansions.
