Summary
Directly supervise the operations of the pump/motor and machine shop as well as the main office yard(s) including basic maintenance of machine shop equipment, machine and pump/motor shop handling tools, operating heavy equipment and mixing job materials in a manner to achieve optimal safety, efficiency, quality, reliability, staff morale and teamwork by performing the duties listed in the following section.
All employees of Weisinger Incorporated must agree to perform work out of town or at night, on the weekends and on holidays with short notice and for an extended period as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following list includes essential duties and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned. Perform all activities in accordance with all policies, principles, and procedures established by Department, Division and Weisinger Inc. Management and Board of Directors.
- Responsible for basic maintenance of machine and pump/motor shop including but not limited to lathe, radial arm, drill, other tooling mechanisms and supporting equipment (including company vehicles, forklift, etc.) before, during and after shift. This includes ensuring proper lubrication and tooling mechanisms. Basic knowledge of electrical systems.
- Take care during operations to leave shop area and equipment in clean, operable condition. Immediately report all maintenance repair issues to the mechanics and chief executive officer.
- When moving equipment (i.e. fork lift), observe job site and assist as needed to prevent damage and destruction of equipment or property.
- Operate vehicles and comply with all Department of Transportation rules and regulations.
- If employee maintains a commercial driver’s license, complete driver vehicle inspection reports before and after operating commercially regulated vehicles. Submit inspection reports after each shift. It is the employee’s responsibility to review weight limits and monitor hours of service for compliance.
- Direct, supervise and schedule shop crews, which includes planning work to be performed and implementing priorities in coordination with the applications manager.
- Conduct purchasing duties for consumable products for commercial service department in coordination with the Commercial Service Superintendent.
- Supervise job and pump inspections before and after work performed. This includes ensuring that subordinates tag pumps and use analytical equipment correctly.
- Ensure job checklists are completed accurately.
- Complete time sheets and shop daily reports for submission to the human resources department and chief executive officer.
- Educate, mentor and/or built relationships with key personnel, which includes communication in person, in writing and over the telephone.
- Responsible for human resource needs of department which includes hiring, training, mediating conflict, supervising performance and firing while maintaining communication with the applications manager, chief executive officer and key human resource personnel.
- Mediate and resolve conflicts between employees and departments on a timely basis, which involves balancing priorities and scheduling tasks.
- Serve as a technical advisor to employees in other departments or independent contractors such as welders as needed.
- Immediately communicate about injuries (either self or crew) to the applications manager and cooperate with injury reporting (which includes accurately and completely answering questions about the situation and injury).
- Use handling tools such as tongs and wrenches as needed.
- Store and care for all tools, spare parts, materials and supplies.
- Responsible for basic housekeeping including but not limited to disposing of garbage and organizing job site, crew truck and employee lockers before, during and after shift. This includes keeping the tool box organized and ensuring that employees in the department share in the task.
- Follow and ensure employees follow all safety regulations, policies, principles and procedures.
- Display willingness to learn about professional and technical skills to advance productivity of self and department.
- Must carry a Weisinger Inc. cell phone and be readily available to assist at all times, either over the phone or by reporting to work, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned, which may include working in another department as needed.
Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma, GED equivalent or applicable experience.
- Four (4) years of trade school or five (5) years of experience in troubleshooting and rehabilitating motors and pumps
- Five (5) years of experience in manually machining parts.
- Five (5) years of experience in mechanical maintenance and construction.
- Five (5) years of supervisory experience.
- Extensive technical training required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
Language Skills
- Strong ability to speak, write, read and understand English required for job function.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical or safety procedures, manuals and standards.
- Ability to articulate business, professional and technical concepts which includes composing and understanding narratives.
- Bilingual (English-Spanish) skills preferred.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals in standard and metric units.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations with and without a calculator.
- Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry to practical situations.
- Ability to read a tape measure.

- Mastery of testing and analytical equipment including but not limited to:
- Micrometer
- Caliper
- Meg-o-meter
- Vibration meter
Computer Skills
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook)
- Vendor software (Goulds, Fairbanks-Morse, Floway or ability to learn)
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to be detail-oriented.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints, schematics and drawings.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Mechanically inclined.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools and measuring instruments.
- Mastery of basic electrical concepts including controls.
- Mastery of QA/QC concepts.
- Welding knowledge.
- Previous manual labor experience and ability to operate a tractor, backhoe or forklift preferred.
- Working knowledge of pumps and mechanical seals.
- Working knowledge of TCEQ and OSHA compliance.
- Ability to identify pumps from tags, bowl sizes, casting numbers and impeller numbers and sizes.
- Ability to lead a team, which includes establishing a good rapport with employees both in and out of the department.
- Ability to read pump curves to determine design conditions.
Physical Demands

Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear and taste or smell; and lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to distinguish color and ability to adjust focus.
Specific hearing abilities required by this job include the ability to distinguish alterations in mechanical processes.
This position requires full use of arms and back,and is comprised of repetitive motions.
