GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Safety Manager reports to the Safety Director and provides daily support to employees, Supervisors, Superintendents, and Managers. Responsible for leadership and coordinating of plant safety and assists in environmental and DOT compliance.

Salary Range: $67,739-$101,608. Based on experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement, and conduct training programs to comply with OSHA required training, equipment training, and other training related to precast. This will include developing the annual toolbox talk calendar and Monthly Safety Meeting Schedule.
  • Build safety procedures into our normal processes to reduce company liability and risk and audit all processes to ensure compliance.
  • Assesses a new employee’s grasp of the training curricula and identifies areas for continued learning.
  • Conducts New Hire Orientation training which covers safety policies and procedures as well as details of major work processes (plant and field).
  • Conducts equipment safety introduction classes to equipment operator candidates and teams up with supervisors and mentors to ensure the candidate is receiving proper hands-on training. Once the candidate is proficient in the equipment being trained, a written test and performance evaluation will be performed by the Safety Training Coordinator. Equipment includes overhead cranes, forklifts, mixer trucks, semis, gantry cranes, loaders, skid steers, etc.
  • Conduct Monthly Safety Meetings or assist Supervisors with their topic presentation.
  • Manage employee training files and provide training records to anyone requesting proof of training (i.e., Supervisors, General Contractors, OSHA, etc.)
  • Help with SDS files and update the electronic log as needed. Also provide information for Project Bid packages
  • Immediately coaches and corrects employees’ unsafe acts, as well as recognizes safe behaviors to reinforce their repetition.
  • Assists in performing Activity Hazard Analyses, audits, Equipment Operator spot checks, etc. and is an asset on how to implement necessary changes.
  • In cases of minor injuries, you may be required to transport the employee to the clinic and be a resource to assisting medical professional on issues relating to what occurred and what alternative work activities are available if the medical professional assigns work restrictions.
  • Assist in Well's drug testing process. Transport employees to a drug testing facility for the purpose of conducting a drug test in cases of reasonable suspicion or property damage.
  • Helps the Safety Director with recordkeeping to comply with all OSHA guidelines.
  • Be a resource to Supervisors and employees when conducting incident investigations and support in corrective action implementation.
  • Aid when the company is working with OSHA inspectors to comply with voluntary programs as well non-scheduled inspections.
  • Help evaluate PPE and plant related safety equipment (e.g., rigging, saws, ladders, etc.) and make changes as needed.
  • Assist with EPA and DOT compliance.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Experience in precast concrete, manufacturing, or construction settings recommended. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in safety.
  • OSHA 10- and 30-hour certifications are preferred but not required. Applicants who do not have the certifications are expected to obtain them within 6 months of hire and/or OSHA 510 and 511 within 12 months of hire.
  • Must have a class driver’s license, a driving record free from violations (except parking violations) for the past 5 years to insure coverage under the Company’s liability insurance policy, and a reliable automobile.
  • Ability to train and coach employees one-on-one and small to large groups.
  • Motivated and self-driven.
  • Able to work-well with others.
  • Organized, efficient, effective communication skills, reliable, good moral compass, willingness to learn.
  • Usage or knowledge of hand tools, material handling equipment, rigging, and fall protection is preferred but not necessary.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds. Activity may include bending, stooping, lifting, pushing/pulling, walking on uneven surfaces, exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for typing, filing, and using office equipment
  • Visual acuity and ability to read small print
  • Hearing acuity and ability to communicate effectively with others
  • Possession of valid driver’s license, and the ability to operate a motor vehicle

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Moderate to high exposure to production environment.
  • Travel as needed to local clinics, jobsites and around the plant. Some out-of-state travel may be required.
  • May be required to be at the plant for early or late shifts depending on training needs.
