A TMS Technician provides clinical, procedural, and patient support in a mental health setting by administering Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) treatments under the supervision of board-certified physicians or psychiatrists. This is a patient-facing role focused on delivering a supportive, safe, and effective TMS experience for individuals undergoing treatment for depression and related neurological or psychiatric conditions.
Authorization & Administrative Duties – Core Responsibilities
- Insurance Verification & Authorization: Confirm patients’ insurance coverage and proactively secure prior authorizations for TMS therapy.
- Insurance Coordination: Liaise with insurance companies to expedite approvals and ensure adherence to medical necessity guidelines.
- Authorization Tracking: Maintain organized records of authorizations, handle renewals, and manage appeals when necessary.
- Appointment & Calendar Management: Oversee patient scheduling and efficiently coordinate treatment calendars.
- Billing Support: Assist with the preparation of documentation for billing; collaborate with billing teams to ensure claims are submitted and processed accurately.
Clinical & Secondary Support Responsibilities
- TMS Treatment Administration: Deliver TMS sessions under physician supervision in alignment with established clinical protocols.
- Patient Preparation & Care: Prepare patients for treatment, monitor comfort and safety, and remain attentive to any adverse effects.
- Session Monitoring & Documentation: Observe patients for side effects during sessions and accurately document all clinical activity in electronic health records.
- Patient Education: Clearly communicate procedural details, treatment expectations, and post-session care instructions.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform regular equipment checks, calibrate TMS devices, and ensure they are operating optimally.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree preferred in a healthcare-related discipline such as psychology, neuroscience, or medical assisting.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; TMS-specific certification or training provided upon employment.
- Proven experience with insurance verification and authorization is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to support patients experiencing mental health challenges.
Work Environment
- Schedule may require flexibility to accommodate early morning or evening patient appointments according to clinic needs.
