What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cell Culture Technician position at Wesleyan University?
Reporting to Dr. Alison O’Neil, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, the Cell Culture Technician is responsible for:
- Maintenance of stem cell lines and differentiation of motor and cortical neurons, astrocytes, and brain organoids.
- Determining the differentiation of stem cells to neuronal subtypes.
- Maintaining an organized tissue culture space.
- Tracking and ordering supplies for the project.
- Maintaining organized and clear notes, data analysis, experimental design, and prompt reporting of findings to the PI.
- Creating and presenting updates for weekly lab meetings.
- Oversee student workers and act as the Tissue Culture Room Manager
- Other duties as assigned.
On the job training will be provided. The technician will also have opportunities to provide contributions to the project through independent projects as time allows.
This is an on-campus position.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and two years of tissue culture experience or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training.
- Familiarity with human cell culture and neurons.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
