POWER SCHOLARS ACADEMY™ PROGRAM
Power Scholars Academy (PSA) is a 5-week summer learning program run in partnership with the West Cook YMCA, School District 90, and BellXcel. The program is designed to provide academic, social emotional learning, and enrichment supports for 1st through 4thgrade scholars. Scholars are identified and invited based on the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support process (MTSS) as Tier 2.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Teacher will be responsible for supporting the academic (cognitive), physical and social –emotional development of scholars. Assistant teachers will actively engage scholars throughout the program and create an environment where scholars will be able to build confidence, try new activities, and build positive relationships. This role will be responsible for supporting academic teachers in instruction throughout the morning academics and developing and implementing enrichment classes and activities in the afternoons and Fridays.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Implementing collaborative teaching strategies with academic and/or enrichment teachers to a cluster of scholars.
2. Supporting the development and delivery of relevant, engaging, and rigorous lessons.
3. Ensuring the academic and social development of scholars throughout the course of the program.
4. Serving as a role model for an assigned group of scholars.
5. Working with teachers to identify scholar needs and develop instructional plans and practices to best support scholars.
6. Monitoring scholars’ educational and social progress and making necessary recommendations for adjustments.
7. Supporting classroom and behavior management consistently to develop a safe and productive learning environment.
8. Maintaining attendance and supporting classroom procedures/functions.
9. Supervising scholars during classroom transitions as well as during lunch, snack, recess, etc.
10. Assisting in field trips and special events.
