Position Overview: As a Legal & Compliance Intern, you will support the legal and compliance functions of a home healthcare company. Your role will involve assisting the legal and compliance team in various tasks, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory requirements in the industry. Responsibilities:
Legal Research: Conduct research on various legal and regulatory topics relevant to the home healthcare industry. This includes analyzing laws, regulations, and policies to ensure compliance and provide recommendations.
Documentation: Assist in the preparation, review, and maintenance of legal documents, contracts, and agreements. This may involve drafting, editing, proofreading, and organizing legal documents to support legal proceedings, transactions, and compliance requirements.
Compliance Support: Collaborate with the compliance team to ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. Assist in monitoring and updating internal policies and procedures to align with legal and regulatory changes.
Regulatory Compliance: Help the legal and compliance team stay informed about changes in healthcare laws, regulations, and licensing requirements. Assist in developing strategies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Legal Support: Provide administrative support to the legal team, which may include managing calendars, scheduling meetings, preparing legal reports, and assisting in litigation matters.
Contract Management: Support contract management activities, including contract review, tracking, and monitoring key dates and milestones. Help maintain an organized contract repository. Assist with the drafting and negotiation of agreements, filings, corporate consents, employment, and policy materials, and other documents as needed; assist with mergers and acquisitions
Training and Awareness: Assist in developing and delivering training materials and presentations to educate employees on legal and compliance matters, including privacy and data protection.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of legal documents, compliance reports, and correspondence. Ensure that records are easily accessible and properly organized.
Collaboration: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as operations, HR, finance, and IT, to address legal and compliance issues and provide guidance as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, a related field, or pursuing a pre-law specialization. Enrollment in a law program or completion of legal coursework is a plus.
- Familiarity with legal and compliance principles, preferably in the healthcare industry. Knowledge of healthcare regulations (HIPAA, Medicare, etc.) is advantageous.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret legal documents and regulations effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear and concise legal documents.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and review.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal research databases.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Discretion and professionalism when handling confidential and sensitive information.
