Our History
West Hills Community College District has a rich history of serving the educational needs of the west side of the San Joaquin Valley for more than 80 years. The district covers nearly 3,500 square miles with colleges in Lemoore and Coalinga, the Firebaugh Center and three child development centers throughout neighboring rural communities, and the Farm of the Future facility at the north end of Coalinga.
Summary
Lemoore College (LC) is offering a full-time Nurse Assistant Training Program Instructor/Director position (non-tenure). The successful candidate must be dedicated to serving students of varying skill levels, be a discipline expert in the field, and will champion, innovate, and provide dynamic pedagogical approaches focused on student success. The successful candidate will exhibit a passion for educating a diverse student population through culturally responsive pedagogy and demonstrate the use of effective practices for engaging students with diverse learning needs, backgrounds, and academic goals. Current course offerings include introductory courses designed to help students develop a foundational understanding of the discipline as well as the fundamental skills and knowledge to meet their educational and career goals. The successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing curriculum including modernizing and increasing the accessibility of the programs offered including the use of technology to deliver instruction in the classroom. Instructional delivery may include the development and implementation of non-traditional approaches and distance learning strategies such as online, hybrid, or video conference (two-way interactive courses), etc.
Teaching assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend courses at Lemoore College and/or other off-campus sites using face to face, hybrid, or online modalities. A minimum of five office hours per week are required. Other responsibilities include participation in department, campus and/or governance meetings. This includes, but is not limited to, Academic Senate appointments to standing councils, committees, and/or a variety of ad-hoc task forces. Additional non-instructional activities may include but are not limited to student recruitment, advising, and updating or developing new curriculum based on student need, industry/workforce standards, and regulatory or accreditation requirements. Participation is also required in developing, assessing, and analyzing learning outcomes and collaborating with full-time and part-time faculty on program review to maintain compliance of the discipline with articulation agreements, interdisciplinary projects, college initiatives and/or employer advisory committees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete instructional responsibilities for NATP program as assigned, including preparation for theory and hospital clinical laboratory experiences;
- Take lead or team member responsibility in designated theory courses and/or clinical settings;
- Develop, implement, evaluate or modify curriculum within the Department of Health Careers; complete and submit appropriate forms to CDPH for additional program development and program offerings
- Work well in a diversity of settings (Long-term care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, medical-surgical) with an ability to work well with diverse, racial, ethnic, gender, disabled and cultural populations;
- Evaluate student performance in theory and clinical classes;
- Communicate effectively with students, patients/residents, families, health care givers and peers;
- Maintain office hours and conduct regular pre and post-conferences as defined by program and course outline;
- Participate in college committees, meetings and activities;
- long range planning and ongoing development of the program in collaboration with director of health careers.
- Assume responsibility for planning, directing implementing, evaluating and changing, when necessary, the NATP program policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations
- Prepare and submit NATP program renewal with support from director of health careers.
- Guide and evaluate student progress clinically and academically and tracking NATP pass rates
- Signing of CDPH 283B upon students successfully completing NATP course and meeting requirements
- Submits and signs CDPH 276S or 276F forms to CDPH for instructor approvals
- Develops and maintain satisfactory working relationships with the community and affiliated clinical agencies and seeks additional clinical sites in collaboration with director of health careers.
- Assists in the recruitment and hiring of NATP instructors
- Maintains a safe and effective learning environment and protect the privacy of students and the confidentially of training records as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Instructional responsibilities for Nurse Assistant Training programs;
- Preparation for and instruction of theory, skills and clinical laboratory experiences;
- Development, implementation, evaluation and modification of curriculum;
- Experience with human patient simulators and audio/visual or telemedicine preferred, as well as MS Office;

Education and Experience
For NATP instructor approval with CDPH
Provide resume showing verifiable work experience. Must include work experience in month/year to month/year format, name and address of each employer, job duties, contact telephone number for Human Resources or administration, and name of supervisor.
Active RN license in California; Two (2) years of nursing experience; One (1) of the two years must be as a licensed nurse providing care and services to chronically ill or elderly patients in an acute care hospital, skilled nursing facility, intermediate care facility, home care, hospice care, or other long-term care setting.
One (1) year of experience planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in nursing OR Twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in nursing (submit course certificate or transcript) completed within six (6) months of employment and prior to teaching a certification program. Courses must be approved by the Board of Registered Nursing or administered by an accredited educational institution
Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing areas of Medical Surgical, Geriatrics, Pediatrics, Maternal Child, Mental Health or Community Health or a combination there of, which can be met by: (A) One (1) year's continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the area; or (B) One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency.
A Bachelor's degree or higher degree from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing, education, or administration. Master’s degree in nursing preferred.
Prefer candidate meets the criteria and be approved by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
License and Certifications
Must have a valid driver's license. Must have a valid State of California license as a registered nurse.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience in general nursing experience; preparation through education and/or experience in providing quality instruction in theory and clinical settings; strong background in acute medical-surgical nursing; experience in providing instruction in medical-surgical nursing; experience coordinating and/or integrating simulation into curriculum and student learning experience. Education/training in areas of simulation and debriefing; experience in or potential for matriculation in pediatric, prenatal, psychiatric specialties; and geriatrics; ability to develop collegial relationships with peers; ability to maintain a close liaison and harmonious relationship and acceptance into area hospitals; demonstrated sensitivity to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds; and the ability to effectively communicate using the spoken and written word.
