ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
West Oak Lane Charter School is searching for a vibrant, driven, talented and team-oriented administrator to serve in an Assistant Principal role.
Our ideal candidate will be someone who works well with team dynamics, is committed to their own growth and development as an instructional leader, and is dedicated to the development, achievement and overall well-being of students and staff.
The Assistant Principal reports to the Principal and is a key component to the school’s academic leadership team. The primary charge for this position is to grow and inspire teachers, staff and students.
As well, the Assistant Principal plays a vital role in the school’s efforts to sustain a productive school culture/climate that celebrates students and staff, and one that fosters an environment grounded in strong morals and academic excellence.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist the principal with developing, monitoring and maintaining the academic and instructional program, school climate/culture, staff/student related policies.
- Assist the principal in monitoring compliance with federal, state and local mandates, specifically as it relates to state testing and special education programs.
- Assist the principal with teacher supervision, development, observations and mentoring.
- Assist with scheduling, student placement, and all associated responsibilities.
- Assist with planning and implementing professional development and training to successfully grow and develop teachers and staff.
- Assist with student transportation, school safety inspections and safety practice drills.
- Assist with developing and achieving instructional goals and objectives.
- Work with appropriate school personnel to identify interventions that respond to the needs of students, both academically and behaviorally.
- Serve on the Academic Leadership Team.
- Assist with coordinating activities to celebrate and reward student attendance and achievement.
- Assist with providing oversight for paraprofessionals in terms of their role in the classroom, monitoring students at recess and in the cafeteria, as well as student arrival and departure.
Essential Qualifications:
- Solid knowledge of educational practices, methods and techniques used to administer school-based programs.
- Ability to effectively and constructively establish trust and maintain quality relationships with students, parents, teachers, staff and administrators.
- Knowledge of Common Core Standards and relevant experience with supporting/coaching teachers to raise their proficiency on the standards.
- Solid skills for team building, staff development and successfully mediating and resolving conflicts.
- Demonstrated capacity to use data to drive instructional practices and develop differentiated interventions to support student advancement.
- Capacity to work collaboratively, independently, harmoniously, and be proactive in all areas of their responsibilities.
- Ability to use sound judgement, prioritize areas of accountability, be flexible and results oriented.
- Ability to be self-directed and prioritize competing goals/tasks/responsibilities.

Successful candidates must be able to clear all background checks and clearances.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree; ideally in education administration.
- Pennsylvania teaching and principal certifications.
- 5 plus years of teaching experience in a K-8 school environment, ideally within an urban setting.
- School leadership experience at the teacher or administrative level.
