SUMMARY
To assist in providing general health and safety in the transportation of special needs students to and from designated locations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists driver and students in operation of lifts for wheelchairs and assists disabled students.
- Maintains good student conduct on the bus.
- Secures special equipment that may accompany the student.
- Is alert to any conditions in the loading and unloading area, which may present a danger to students.
- Communicates in an appropriate fashion with students’ parents, teachers, administrators and community.
- May employ physical intervention strategies when necessary, using non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
- Maintains student health plans during transportation.
- Assists with student loading and unloading on and off the bus.
- May operate various lifts, instructional or adaptive equipment and assistive technology devices.
- Supervises and monitors students daily during instructional and non-structured periods.
- Performs recordkeeping and/or clerical tasks as directed.
- Participates in building level activities, staff meetings, professional learning, trainings or other meetings as directed.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written and oral communication.
EDUCATION/SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Driver’s License. Prefer two years experience working with students in an educational or daycare environment. Presence on the job is an employee’s fundamental obligation. Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, administrators, parents and the community. Physical abilities sufficient to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel and/or lift, or employ physical intervention strategies when necessary. Ability and desire to work with students with special needs and severe disabilities. Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written and oral communication.
