POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in sports classes as an instructor and assistant for classes within the sports department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Instructs sports classes in accordance with YMCA guidelines (i.e. keeping students safe, challenged, and actively engaged, maintain a safe learning environment, and enforcing gym and field rules & policies), having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourage parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
Active support of our DEIB statement and putting into practice our commitment to equity, diversity, belonging and inclusion. Continue to think about strategies to support diversity goals of the organization.
Conveys information on sports programs and schedules; and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.)
Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
Willingness to accept responsibilities and duties other than those assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum age of 18.
Certifications: CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid.
Must have experience playing and teaching multiple sports to children.
Flexible schedule in the afternoons and possibly weekends.
Good role model, high integrity and professionalism, and adaptable.
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Physical Demands:
Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations.
Climbing, crouching, standing, sitting on floor, kneeling, swimming, carrying (50 lbs), pushing, lifting (50 lbs) and walking.
