Food Service Director
Hours: Up to 28 hours per week as necessary to complete tasks; a typical schedule would be Monday-Friday from
8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. during the school year with breaks as determined by the school calendar. This schedule may be variable depending on the needs of students and staff.
Compensation: As determined by experience; this is a part time, non-benefited hourly position.
Position Overview: The Food Service Director will be overseen by the Principal and is primarily responsible for the preparation and serving of food for the three lunch periods that occur during the school day in accordance with local, state and federal requirements, including public health and safety. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, has strong organizational and communications skills and is comfortable working with technology to submit reports and communicate with constituents.
Responsibilities include:
● Plan and distribute menus that conform to federal regulations and provide nutritional and appetizing foods utilizing USDA commodities
● Develop and prepare all reports for the Michigan Department of Education
● Process and approve all applications for free and reduced lunches and keep records current for state audits
● Oversee and coordinate the daily operation of the school’s food service program, including serving on the line as needed, charging student accounts and managing cash flow
● Monitor food production and service to assure that planned menus are followed and that substitutions comply with meal requirements
● Maintain full production records on all meals
● Provide on-the-job training to staff in areas of food production, sanitation and lunch accounting
● Develop specifications, solicit competitive prices, and requisition all food, equipment and supplies for the department
● Evaluate meal costs and recommend changes as appropriate
● Assess food service equipment needsTh
● Oversee Food Service Assistants and approve time sheets.
● Send out monthly statements to parents
● Take a monthly physical inventory of all food products and supplies
● Set up and display the serving line for food service.
● Keep kitchen equipment cleaned and stored as appropriate
● Perform major cleaning of refrigerators, freezers and storage rooms at regularly scheduled intervals as designated.
● Responsible for maintaining a professional and courteous manner with fellow employees, building staff and students.
● Perform other related duties as assigned
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
