Job Duties

Up to a $25,000 Bonus for Registered Nurses that are new to state service and remain with the facility for 2 years.
· $15,000 sign on bonus will be awarded to new hires to state service with a one-year written agreement required.
· An additional $10,000 retention bonus will be awarded to new hires who are hired after November 9th, 2023. The retention bonus will be paid out one year after hire date and require a one-year written agreement.

Above bouses are available to Registered Nurse II that are new to DBHDS or have not worked for at least one year for Department of Behavior Health Developmental Services (DBHDS).

Western State Hospital is seeking experienced nurses as an RN II for 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts. Registered Nurses are scheduled to work (2) 12-hour shifts and (2) 8-hour shifts or (5) 8-hour shift per week and every other weekend.

Competitive salaries: RN II-Starting Pay from $79,572 and increases to commensurate with experience, education, and credentials. Total compensation including paid time off and benefits begins at $120,408 for this role.

• 1st shift weekend-$5.50 per hour

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental services support individuals by promoting recover, self-determination, and wellness in all aspects of life. DBHDS operates 12 facilities: eight behavioral health facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for behavioral rehabilitation. State facilities provide highly structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness, intellectual disability, or need substance use disorder services. DBHDS is seeking dedicated, experienced Registered Nurse Professionals. A Registered Nurse II at DBHDS is responsible for providing advanced nursing care for patients with psychiatric disorders in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, as well as nursing standards and regulations. Registered Nurses are also responsible safely implementing the use of Seclusion/Restraints including knowledge of physical/emotional risk factors of the patients served at the facility.

Minimum Qualifications

- Experience working as Registered Nurse.
- Must successfully complete BLS, TOVA and other required training upon employment at Western State Hospital.
- Must successfully complete and maintain competencies.
Presents effective interpersonal communication skills, team focused care and a professional appearance /approach.
- Presents the ability to assess plan, implement and evaluate care utilizing knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric and physical disorders, cultural needs of the psychiatric patient.
- Presents good clinical knowledge and resource to staff.
- Experience or ability to delegate , supervise, evaluate and problem solve.
- Registered nursing licensure or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Current, Virginia license to practice as a Registered Nurse or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement is accepted.

Additional Considerations

- Additional consideration will be given to Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution or higher education.
