What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Handler position at Westlake Royal Building Products?
SUMMARY: Responsible for setting up, operating, or tending machines to mix or blend materials, such as chemicals, or color pigments; producing and supplying quality compound materials for the Injection Molding department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Observes production or monitors equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Maintains communication between shifts and coworkers.
- Performs daily departmental housekeeping.
- Cleans and maintains equipment, using hand tools.
- Assists the Compound Machine Operator in the start-up and shutdown of operations as needed.
- Fills in for the Compound Machine Operator during their absence, including performing machine start-up / shutdown, quality checks, and become familiar with material changeovers.
- Monitors gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
- Collects samples of materials or products for laboratory testing.
- Conducts tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
- Handles heavy bags and drums.
- Examines materials, ingredients, or products visually or with hands to ensure conformance to established standards.
- Weighs, measures, and loads ingredients and checks mixture for specified consistency.
- Adds or mixes chemicals or ingredients for processing.
- Dumps or pours specified amounts of materials into machinery or equipment.
- Records operational or production data on specified forms.
- Monitors compounding equipment and perform troubleshooting, while following policies and procedures regarding equipment, components, and finished goods.
- Accurately documents downtime, batch records and reconciliation forms.
- Maintains specification requirements, adjusts equipment to meet specifications, and performs frequent quality inspections and documents the inspections.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, licenses and registrations required:
Valid driver license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
Forklift certification required

- Able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays.
- Minimum of 2 years solid recent work history that includes working on a forklift.
- Previous warehouse experience a plus.
- Must pass equipment operator's testing, according to position and department requirements.

- Occasionally exposure to wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather)
- Continually work near moving mechanical parts
- While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually loud
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds / continually lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus

- May use (but not limited to) power equipment such as a forklift, hand tools, and other devices operated in a warehouse environment.
- Fork lift and electric pallet jack for material movement.
- Bra-bender.
- Material handling system.
- Weight scales for the weighing of pre-mix components and pallets.
- Adjustable wrenches.
- Bench/Gram scales.
- Depth indicators/measuring sticks.
