What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Chaplain position at Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge?

The Associate Chaplain primary responsibility is to provide for the pastoral care needs of residents in areas involving spiritual health, worship, bereavement, end of life issues, crisis intervention and visitation with a focus in our Health Center. As may be appropriate and necessary from time to time, the Associate Chaplain will also provide such pastoral care services to resident family members. The Associate Chaplain will also be available to provide pastoral support to associates which may include direction to other resources such as the EAP, HR, and/or the associate’s personal clergy.
\n- Provides pastoral care and visitation to residents in care settings, both on and off campus (e.g., local hospitals).
- Arranges or provides spiritual programming opportunities in the Health Center. Programming to include but not limited to bible studies and devotions.
- In coordination with the Chaplain, plans and conducts special worship services, especially surrounding major religious observances.
- In coordination with the Chaplain, coordinates, arranges and/or officiates memorial services, celebrations of life, and remembrance gatherings at WCBR.
- Coordinates the visitation of clergy in the community when requested or desired by residents and/or family members.
- Contributes to the Care Plan process as requested. Communicates information essential to effective care planning to appropriate associates. Serves as a resource to care teams when pastoral needs are identified.
- Maintains visibility in all areas of WCBR which may include dining with residents in the various dining rooms as well as attending residents’ meetings and activities.
- Assists the Chaplain in the coordination of pastoral services and acts as backup for the Chaplain.
- Participates with the Inter Disciplinary Team (IDT) and joins any applicable meetings centered around residents in the Health Center.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and negotiation skills.
- Excellent decision-making skills, strong organizational skills, ability to work well with residents and associates; possesses a strong initiative in engaging with residents and associates and developing programs and events. Is attentive to detail with an ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Master of Divinity or equivalent from an accredited seminary.
- Must be ordained and in good standing with their respective denomination.
- A minimum of five years in a pastoral setting with an emphasis and some experience in long-term care, acute care, or hospice care. Experience in a CCRC setting is preferred.
