What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Humanities Teacher position at Westminster Schools Of Augusta?

Westminster Schools of Augusta is a Pre-K through 12 regionally-accredited, coeducational, college-preparatory, Christian day school enrolling close to 650 students. The 34-acre campus is located in a residential section of Augusta, which is Georgia’s second-largest metropolitan area. The school is affiliated with First Presbyterian Church of Augusta (PCA), but the student body and faculty include members from more than 90 different local churches of various denominations.

We are interested in receiving applications from Christian school educators who view their calling as teaching and discipling students for the advancement of God’s kingdom as we equip students to live extraordinary lives for Jesus Christ. Such educators with sound academic credentials who desire to serve in an academically challenging, Christian environment with highly engaging and responsible students should apply. An ideal candidate would also be able to fill other openings such as coaching positions.

High School Humanities Teacher (2026-2027 School Year)

Middle/Upper School English Teacher Responsibilities

  • Teach 4-5 High School English classes.
  • Possibly teach a High School History course.
  • Possibly lead the Yearbook.
  • Work collaboratively with administration and English department colleagues in order to strengthen student performance and support.
  • Consistently communicate and partner with parents in the shared desire of student growth and success.
  • Possess strong organizational skills and insights on how to teach a class with wide-ranging abilities.
  • Use technology in the classroom as an instructional tool.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to instructional excellence.
  • Acknowledge, appreciate, and adjust to the various ways that students learn.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques to promote critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Set high academic standards and expectations for students and challenge them to do their very best.
  • Maintain high standards of professional conduct, support of the Christian mission, and comfort in an independent school setting.
  • Pursue professional growth and development.
  • Participate in the broader ministry of Westminster through co-curricular activities (NHS, athletics, or school club).
  • Invest in the lives of students through GAP groups and other mentorship opportunities.
  • Seek to know, love, and serve all students as individuals, recognizing and developing their unique gifts and abilities

Physical Requirements, Work Environment And Abilities Needed

  • Oral Expression – The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • Speech Clarity – The ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.
  • Speech Recognition – The ability to identify and understand the speech of another person.
  • Oral Comprehension – The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Written Comprehension and Expression – The ability to understand and communicate information and ideas in writing.
  • Selective Attention – The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
  • Vision – the ability to see details at a close range as well as at a distance.
  • Environment – The ability to work in a potentially stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts. Generally works in climate controlled environment, but may be required from time to time to work outdoors in extreme conditions.
  • The ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field of study
  • Ability to work in a collegial environment

Preferred Requirements

  • Master’s degree
  • Five to seven years teaching experience
  • Interest in supporting co-curricular activities (clubs, athletics, advisory)
  • Knowledge and/or experience working in an independent school environment
  • Understanding of the importance of integrating faith and learning
