What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher of the Visually Impaired position at Westmoreland Intermediate Unit?
The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit is seeking qualified applicants for Teacher of the Visually Impaired.
Minimum annual salary is $49,845 for a qualified candidate with a bachelors degree, and $50,845 for a qualified candidate with a masters degree. Salary step credit will be given for verified/approved professional experience, based on our board policy.

The Teacher of the Visually Impaired is responsible for the screening, assessment and development of individual education plans for blind/visually impaired students, and adhering to the applicable laws and policies that govern special education. An educator certified in this field may provide staff development services regarding their collegial studies/skills and may serve in the role of mentor, advisor, consultant, and advocate for the students in which they service. Teachers of the visually impaired also assist students in understanding the expanded core curriculum as well other curricular materials related to the subject areas, and make the necessary adaptations and modifications, in accordance with their students’ individual programs.
Minimum Education: BA/BS and PA Certificate: Instructional I Special Education-Blind/Visual Impairments or Educational Specialist I: Visual Impairments
Minimum Experience: 0-3 Years experience
