POSITION SUMMARY:
Instruct group classes; provide excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Enforce aquatic rules and policies
- Prepare progressive exercise plans for program participants
- Record and maintain attendance records daily
- Set up facility or equipment, store equipment, and secure facility and equipment upon completion of each class
- Act as a Primary Responder in case of injury, accident, or illness in pool area and provide backup to lifeguards as needed in emergencies and crowd control. Report injuries and complete required forms
- Support and follow YMCA policies and decisions and answer member questions about the YMCA and its programs and fitness related questions
- Attend staff meetings
- Plans and implements a program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA
- Coordinates activities which are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least one year experience leading fitness classes
- General knowledge of exercise training and leadership, including basic anatomy, physiology, and exercise principles
- Physically fit in order to demonstrate all phases of aerobic exercises.
- Mentally alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents.
- Able to hear and follow the beat of the music and have visual ability to observe class participants during workout.
- Able to vocalize cues and use equipment properly.

- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit use hands to manipulate objects, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, hear and see.
- The ability to demonstrate exercises and fitness-related movements. This includes but is not limited to: lifting dumbbells, pressing weight overhead, pressing weight with legs, sitting/laying on the floor, standing, jumping, and running.
- The ability to hear and speak to be heard by class participants.
- Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
