MECHANIC

Job Summary:

The Mechanic will perform repair work and maintenance for motor vehicles in the company’s fleet. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Maintains vehicles, which may include a company’s fleet of vehicles, heavy equipment, garbage trucks, and other motor vehicles.
• Performs routine and preventive maintenance.
• Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
• Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems.
• Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
• Plans and establishes schedule to complete repairs and maintenance.
• Keeps shop equipment operating and available for use by following operating instructions and preventive maintenance.
• Test drives vehicle to confirm safe and proper operation.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reviewing and understanding updated technical and regulation publications.
• Maintains vehicle records and vehicle maintenance records.
• Maintains a clean work environment, shop, and work area.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent mechanical repair skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair. 
• Ability to read and understand service and repair manuals.
• Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or related field preferred.
• One year of related experience preferred.

Requirements:

• Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds at times.
• Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with odors present.
• Must possess a valid state-issued class B CDL driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
• Must be able to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning, pulling, precision manual dexterity.
• Must be able to perform work on uneven surfaces, frequently climb ladders, work from various heights including making repairs on top of commercial trucks and equipment.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all-weather conditions.
