What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mailroom Clerk Department of Corrections position at Wicomico County?
The Corrections Mail Clerk is responsible for performing administrative and various clerical tasks, and responding to inquiries from the public and other agencies.Duties include:
- Processing, sorting, and distributing incoming and outgoing inmate mail;
- Inspecting all mail for traces of possible drugs;
- Communicating with the public in person and by phone and routing callers appropriately;
- Performing computer tasks such as answering inmate requests via computer messaging and maintaining inmate phone databases;
- Processing releases inmate checks and funds disbursement requests; and
- Maintaining staff and visitor accountability logs.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- 3 years of general office experience;
- Ability to interact with the public, released offenders, law enforcement, and other agencies effectively while maintaining confidentiality;
- Good verbal and written communication skills;
- Proficient computer skills;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and vendors;
- Experience in the use of standard office software;
- Excellent communication, multi-tasking, and filing skills;
- Valid Driver’s License; and
- Ability to pass background check and drug testing.
