What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Corporate Controller position at Wilbert Funeral Services?
Reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Controller, the Assistant Corporate Controller is responsible for providing direct leadership to the Wilbert accounting team. This role will be focused on timely and accurate execution of accounting activities, the integrity of key processes and reported results, the execution of the annual audit, and leading continuous improvement in these activities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides direct leadership to the accounting team including establishing appropriate goals and objectives, providing timely performance feedback, and leading continuous growth and development for the employees.
- Ensures timely and accurate completion of the month-end close, consolidation, and reporting process. Be willing to “do”, “manage/review”, or both as needed.
- Analyzes accounting and financial information and leads the development of appropriate external and management reporting.
- Ensures adequate internal controls exist in accounting processes and leads initiatives to document and improve internal controls in those processes.
- Collaborates with the Corporate Controller on the timing and execution of the annual external audit and ensures timely completion of the audit on an annual basis.
- Establishes and administers processes for the appropriate documentation and review of month-end journal entries, consolidation entries, and account reconciliations.
- Collaborates with the Corporate Controller on accounting policy and procedures. Determine and recommend internal accounting and reporting procedures and policies to drive continuous improvement.
- Provide accounting expertise on M&A transactions from pre-acquisition due diligence through post-acquisition integration
- Supports the Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis team in the development of annual operating plans and forecasts, and the analysis of actual results
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Licensed CPA
- Minimum of five years of experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, or internal audit with a minimum of three years of experience managing a team of accounting professionals
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment meeting monthly close and reporting deadlines
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, management, communication, and leadership skills
- Minimum three years of experience working with an ERP system
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in accounting, business, or a related field
- Experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience working in a company with multiple locations across the USA
- Public accounting experience
- Experience with Syspro ERP, Vena, and/or Power BI Financial systems implementation experience
