What are the responsibilities and job description for the CULINARY INTERN/EXTERN position at Wild Dunes Resort?

Summary:  The Culinary Intern/Extern will assist cooks and chefs in daily food preparation. This is a position that requires total supervision and training.  The Culinary Intern/Extern will maintain the AAA Four Diamond standards.

 

The Culinary Intern/Extern shall strive to provide exceptional service to both internal and external guests at all times. S/he will be responsible for exemplifying the Wild Dunes Resort Culture as well as promoting Wild Dunes Resort as both the Destination and Employer of Choice!

 
Essential job Functions:
  • With supervision and training, the Culinary Intern is responsible for:
  • Cooking, preparing, and garnishing food for our Restaurants, Amenities, Room service, Banquets, and all Catered events. 
  • This position will maintain organization, cleanliness and sanitation of work areas and equipment.
  • Learning cooking techniques and other skills to prepare the Culinary Intern for a culinary career in the future.
 

Colleague is held accountable for all duties of this job, other duties as assigned and standards outlined in the Wild Dunes Resort handbook.

Qualifications

 

Experience & Education:
  • Must be enrolled in the Culinary Program though an accredited college/university.
 
Job Requirements:
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Kitchen/prep experience preferred.
  • Capable of performing repetitious duties.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment to perform duties under pressure and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Ability to resolve problems/conflicts and interact well with guests and colleagues
  • Maintain professional appearance and demeanor at all times
 

Colleagues who are hired at Wild Dunes Resort will be verified through the federal E-Verify system.

 
Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, cold, sun & heat);
  • Must be able to stand & walk throughout the day, including on uneven surfaces for long periods of time
  • Must be able to frequently lift, push, pull & carry up to 10 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend, squat, & twist on an occasional basis
  • Must be able to perform simple grasping, squeezing, and repetitive hand & arm movements frequently; and fine manipulation occasionally.
