What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Technician position at Williamsport Municipal Water Authority?
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assume responsibility for mapping and surveying services to insure accurate records of main locations, and to provide engineering technical services to assist in planning construction and facilities maintenance. Perform all duties in a clear, concise and timely manner. The Engineering Technician provides staff support to several departments and is under the supervision of the Project Engineer and/or Director of Engineering.
EXAMPLES OF WORK - Including but not limited to the following:
* Check deeds and assessment records in the courthouse
* Monitor and record water and sewer line pressure tests
* Inspect water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater line construction and repair work
* Perform surveys for water, sanitary sewer and stormwater line planning and construction
* Draft plans for water, sanitary sewer and stormwater line construction using computer aided drafting and design programs, including AutoCAD
* Prepare quantity and cost estimates using computer spreadsheets
* Do inspections and surveys of dams including alignment and emergency inspections
* Maintain accurate records of water, sanitary sewer and stormwater main locations
* Provide information to field crews and collect field data
* Obtain PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permits
* Perform GIS data entry, maintenance, and analyzation
* Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Associate degree or equivalent in training and experience in engineering, surveying and/or engineering drafting
* Basic knowledge of water, wastewater and stormwater pipeline design, construction methods, inspection and materials testing
* Ability to operate electronic surveying equipment including electronic levels, total stations and Global Positioning Systems (GPS), transfer and analyze data
* Basic computer knowledge and ability to use engineering/surveying/drafting/GIS software
* Demonstrated skills in board drafting and proficient in AutoCAD
* Knowledge of basic mathematics, algebra, geometry and trigonometry
* A minimum of two years of experience in computer aided drafting, surveying and construction inspection
* Physical ability to negotiate rough terrain and work in adverse weather conditions
* Skill in reading blueprints, plans and specifications
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
* Current driver's license
