Responsibilities
Preparation, Review, and Filing of Tax Returns
- Assist with tax planning and estimated tax payments
- Prepare tax workpapers and supporting schedules needed for preparation of federal and state tax returns
- Analyze financial data and record GAAP-to-tax adjustments
- Review various federal and state partnership, corporate and consolidated entity tax returns prepared by outside tax firms for accuracy and completeness
- Coordinate the filing of various returns prepared by outside tax firms in a timely manner, which includes the filing of extensions as necessary.
- Review, research and resolve federal and state tax notices/correspondence
- Initiate and record tax payments and coordinate with outside tax firms
- Prepare state apportionment support schedules such as payroll by state, income by state and rent/depreciation by state
- Prepare sales tax analysis and calculations for in-house services provided and file annual sales tax return with State of Texas.
- Assist with REIT analysis and calculations
- Knowledge of REIT testing, ITSI and income limitations
- Assist in conducting research involving federal, state, and local tax laws, regulations, and rulings to address the continuously shifting tax landscape to support decision-making and strategy development.
- Stay informed about changes in tax laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting commercial/residential real estate taxation
- Other tax compliance projects as needed
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
- Minimum 3-4 years of federal and multiple state tax return experience
- Ability to work in a team environment with accounting department and outside tax firms
- Strong research skills with the ability to navigate and interpret complex tax laws and regulations
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- CPA License a plus
