Facility Description
The Lighthouse is an Adult Rehabilitation Facility, it is located in Eureka, California. The program provide’s adult consumers requiring residential and mental health services with a community-based alternative to institutional placements. The program provides a 24-hour per day, seven days per week structured, therapeutic milieu for consumers. The program’s primary goal is to assist consumers to develop the skills necessary to transition from supervised twenty-four (24) hour care to independent living within the consumer’s home community.
The Lighthouse staff works in collaboration with County Mental Health, Case Managers, the Public Guardian and the individual consumer to develop a comprehensive plan for community re-integration from out of county higher levels of care.
Services are individually targeted and focused on comprehensive life skills development to reduce the consumer’s dependence on higher levels of 24-hour care and emergency psychiatric services and to maintain an independent living arrangement. Position: Mental Health Aide or Mental Health Worker
Work Location: The Lighthouse – Cutten
Position Overview: Under the direction of the Facility or House Manager, the Mental Health Aide or Mental Health Worker is responsible for implementing client care, ensuring safety and security, and performing related duties as required. This role follows guidelines outlined in the facility's Policy and Procedure Manual and the Willow Glen Care Center Employee Handbook.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Client Supervision & Care:
- Provide intensive client supervision and consistent redirection.
- Facilitate client participation in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and ensure familiarity with client service plans to implement assigned care.
- Monitor client health and safety, assist with personal care tasks including bathing, feeding, and hygiene, and ensure a safe and supportive environment.
Facility Maintenance:
- Participate in facility cleanliness and upkeep, including deep room cleaning, laundry, sanitizing, general maintenance, and organization.
- Assist with meal planning, preparation, and cooking, ensuring nutrition standards are met.
Medication Management:
- Support clients in medication management, including organizing and counting medications, assisting with self-administration, and reporting any adverse reactions or refusals.
- Educate clients on medication management in line with facility policies.
Client Interaction & Support:
- Develop therapeutic relationships with clients, using non-confrontational body language and less restrictive interventions.
- Encourage client participation in daily activities and the milieu, ensuring a respectful and empowering environment.
- Transport clients to appointments or events as assigned and report findings to supervisors and team members.

- Serve as a liaison with placement agencies, families, and guardians to coordinate services and maintain positive relationships.

- Maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and professional relationships with coworkers, ensuring boundaries are respected and confidentiality is upheld.

- Provide assistance to other staff members as needed and complete all required documentation and reporting accurately and timely.
Physical, Environmental, and Mental Requirements:
- Physical: Ability to lift/carry up to 25 lbs. and perform moderately difficult tasks. Must be able to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods.
- Sensory: Ability to read documents and understand normal sounds with some background noise. Must speak and understand English clearly.
- Cognitive: Ability to concentrate on details with constant interruptions and remember tasks over several days or weeks.
- Psychological: Potential exposure to loud tones or intimidating behaviors in the client care environment.
- Environmental Conditions: Frequent exposure to varied office and mixed environments, occasional exposure to toxins, dust, and loud noises. Potential exposure to bodily fluids and odors.
- Equipment: Regular use of a computer, phone, copy, and fax machine. Additional equipment usage as needed.
Requirements, Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Mental Health Aide requirements: One year experience in a residential care facility or the equivalent
- Mental Health Worker requirements: two years’ experience working with people with severe and persistent mental illness.
- Skills: Strong computer skills, experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) preferred.
- Special Requirements:
- Must be able to pass pre-employment medical and drug tests as required under State Licensing regulations and/or agency policies.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a criminal records clearance, as required by any and all licensing regulations, and Willow Glen Care Center practices.
- Must follow any/all Center requirements related to the control or mitigation of communicable diseases within our facilities, which may include vaccination requirements or face covering requirements.
- Upon hire or before, must complete tuberculosis clearance and health screening to determine fitness for duty. Annual tuberculosis clearance or health screening may be required.
- Must obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, crisis intervention training certification, if applicable.
- This position may require driving. If so, a valid California driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, current personal auto insurance as required by law, and an MVR sufficient to obtain and reasonably maintain insurability under agency auto liability policies are all essential job requirements.
