JOB TITLE: Medical Assistant

REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing and Nurse Manager

RESPONSIBILITES: The Medical Assistant’s primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: maintaining patient flow in the office setting, checking patients in and out to be seen by the provider, reviewing with the GI patient the preparation procedure for out-patient Endoscopy procedures, and keeping the patient exam rooms clean and stocked.

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):

· Taking the patient’s temperature, pulse, BP, & weight; and recording on the flow sheet at each visit.

· Review and accurately update medication record with current and discontinued medications; including allergies, on each patient visit.

· Review patient records prior to upcoming office visit for completion of reports and results ordered or performed by the physician or PA, maintain the record has proper forms with accurate information, and loose papers are filed properly. New consults should have records from referring MD’s prior to visit.

· Assist physician or PA with procedures done in the office setting.

· Maintain patient flow in the office setting with timely check-in of appointments, room change over, and assuring the physician or PA is staying on timely schedule.

· Assist patients as needed with dressing/undressing, getting onto exam table, transporting, etc.

· Keep patients informed of delays in appointments or extended waiting time due to physician or PA ‘s unexpected scheduling changes and maintain communication between provider and patient on other concerns.

· Assist physician or PA in exam room as needed.

· Check rooms between patient visits; change table paper and pillowcases, clean and straighten as needed, disinfect exam tables regularly and prn, and keep stocked with all needed supplies and linen.

· Keep brochure racks (in rooms and by check out) stocked with pamphlets, handouts, Metamucil samples, etc.

· Check out patients after seen by provider; provide with samples as ordered by properly signing out in book, assist patients to check out to make appointments, schedule procedures and prep, and schedule simple x-ray tests.

· Maintain a file for all upcoming outpatient endoscopy procedures, do all schedules endoscopy preps, prepare and send all procedure packets for all physicians to the outpatient facility prior to the date of exam.

· Assist office nurse with other duties as deemed necessary.

· Assist with scheduling and other office functions during down time and as needed.

· Reporting of adverse incident reporting.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Current certification as a medical assistant or certified nurses assistant in the state of N.C. Pleasant personality, attitude, and ability to work well with others. Organizational skills. Ability to communicate well with patients and providers. Patient teaching abilities. Good handwriting skills. Professional appearance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

  • EMR systems: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Working in healthcare: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • BLS Certification (Preferred)
  • CNA, CMA (Required)
