The Wilson County Health Department is accepting applications for a Public Health Nurse II, OSHA, Infection Control, Employee Health Nurse Coordinator and Sickle Cell Coordinator. This is a full time benefits eligible position with Wilson County Government. Compensation: The starting salary for a fully qualified Public Health Nurse II starts at $60,060 a COMPETIVE BENEFITS PACKAGE. Hours: 8:00 am- 5:00 pm (40 hrs per week), Monday- Friday. Extended hours or weekend work may be requested or required for special events and/or programmatic needs.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The primary purpose of the Public Health Nurse II position is to serve as the nursing coordinator and resource person for the Employee Health/ Infection Control/OSHA and Sickle Cell Programs, within the Health Department. To provide nursing services through the various medical programs within the department. Clinic Responsibilities - 55% of the timeWork as needed in other Health Department clinics and programs including Family Planning, Maternity, STD, Primary Care/Adult Health, Child Health, Immunizations, and Communicable Disease.Obtain client histories, vital signs, measurements, obtain appropriate lab specimens, and provide counseling and education, and referral to other sources, as necessary.Dispenses appropriate medications.Initiates necessary referrals as per programmatic guidelines.Performs hearing and visual acuity screenings on children in the Well Child Program.Orders appropriate lab work as per Standing Orders.Employee Health/Infection Control/OSHA Coordinator - 30% of the timePreparation of and maintaining each employee’s medical file. Ensuring that employees are up to date on immunizations.Preparation of OSHA files and review/update OSHA trainings on all employees. Assists with Fit tests for N-95 respirators as part of the Respiratory Protection Plan. Assists with the education of employees regarding the Emergency Evacuation Plan and the Emergency Shelter Plan.Responsible for annual review/update of the Infection Control and Employee Health Program manuals. Assists with outreach activities for health promotion and/or other Health Department events, which occur within the community.Chairs the Wilson County annual Employee Wellness Extravaganza. Sickle Cell Coordinator - 10% of the timeCoordinate and manage the Sickle Cell Program for the Health Department. Act as contact person for the program between Health Department, regional Sickle Cell Counselor, and the client to see that appointments are made.Provide health education to new employees and other agencies that are unaware of the problems related with Sickle Cell Disease.Serve as nursing resource person when questions arise related to the Sickle Cell Program, both from Health Department staff and from the general public.Coordinate counseling and follow-up by State Sickle Cell Counselor.Also responsible for informing staff of State changes in the Sickle Cell Program.Responsible for the Sickle Cell manual. Other Clinical Responsibilities and Duties - 5% of the timeActively participates in all program and record audits, as scheduled.Attends required staff trainings on OSHA, CPR, and HIPAA as scheduled, as well as other continuing educational programs.Stay updated in all areas of nursing practice.Maintains required personnel records, such as time and travel.Helps maintain a safe working environment.Assigned duties related to Bioterrorism and Emergency Response activities, to include staffing of emergency shelters.Duties as assigned by the Health Director and/or his/her designee.
