Responsibilities:
Wilson Nurseries Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a full-time Fleet Mechanic, certified to work on diesel engines. As a reputable and well-established company with our own mechanics shop, we offer an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of equipment systems from small engines to heavy equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, service, and repair various systems found on farm equipment, including mechanical and computer electronic controls, air brake systems, transmissions (both computer-controlled automatic and manual), pneumatic systems and hydraulic systems.
- Actively participate in the review of operational and mechanical safety-related issues associated with our fleet.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks, such as lubrication, oil changes, and failure analysis.
- Conduct routine brake inspections and adjustments on commercial vehicles in compliance with Federal DOT requirements.
- Create detailed work orders for repairs and services, providing legible and accurate information on the work performed.
- Collaborate with the location supervisor and review Pre-Trip truck inspections to prioritize work accordingly.
- Utilize a software-based tracking program to input daily repair reports.
- Maintain effective communication with drivers and managers to ensure adherence to preventative vehicle maintenance policies and practices.
- Utilize a wide variety of hand and power tools, cutting torches, and welding equipment.
- Order parts from approved vendors and, when necessary, drive the company pick-up/repair truck to pick up parts.
- Proven experience in diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment systems.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and computer electronic controls, air brake systems, transmissions, and pneumatic systems.
- Familiarity with operational and mechanical safety practices and be safety oriented.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance tasks and inspections.
- Proficiency in creating accurate and detailed work orders.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong communication skills to interact with drivers, plant managers, and other team members.
- Proficient in using a variety of hand and power tools, cutting torches, and welding equipment.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
