JOB DESCRIPTION
WINNEBAGO PUBLIC SCHOOL

Purpose Statement
Serve the students attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness and warmth
Essential Functions

  • Prepare all assigned items needed for daily menu according to USDA and CN uniform recipes.
  • Keep work area, including all equipment used clean, sanitized and in working order.
  • Responsible for washing pots and pans used during serving time and refilling serving line.
  • Involved in daily cleaning of kitchen equipment, washing sterilizing of dishes, silverware and utensils.
  • Keep daily records, reporting to supervisor daily sue of food and non-food items.
  • Maintain proper storage and handling of food materials, according to HACCP requirements.
  • Help co-workers when called upon or necessary to meet the department goals.
  • Prepare additional means for field trips, activities or as requested.
  • Perform heavy duty cleaning assignments during non-school days or as required.
  • Attend monthly safety training, and any other training sessions that pertain to job responsibilities, including before School is in session and after School is in session according to supervisor’s discretion and/or state requirements.

Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the safe, efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

CONFIDENTIALITY must be maintained under all circumstances in accordance to the schools confidentiality policy which supports federal and state guidelines. ATTENDANCE is a priority and must be exceptional. Must do what is required to prepare for the day, ahead of the standard arrival of students and as the primary person who greets those entering the building every day. Responsible to coordinate with defined back-up person if unable to be at work within the expected time and/or leaving early or missing a day. Sometimes longer days are necessary and you will be notified when that is required. INTERACTION with visitors requires writing late slips, telling people they may not proceed into the school or classrooms without an appropriate escort. May at times have to handle upset adults and students because of situations and do it in a professional and helpful manner. May be required to contact fire/police and other outside services to respond to an emergency situation and do it in a calm and helpful manner. Must communicate with all visitors, students, teachers etc., with courtesy, tact and diplomacy.

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: preparing and maintaining accurate records; operating standard office equipment; moderate problem solving with office equipment; functional knowledge of computers and utilizing pertinent software application (Microsoft word, Microsoft excel). Expected to upgrade skills in phones & GoEdustar and other school related software as required.

KNOWLEDGE is required is required of district policy, procedures, local, federal and state laws applicable to perform of the school reception functions including basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent’s, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: business telephone etiquette; English grammar/punctuation/spelling/vocabulary; and office practices.

FLEXIBILITY is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans; adapting to changing priorities; working with frequent interruptions; communicating with diverse groups; and displaying tact and courtesy.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; coordinating others; representing the school in a professional, friendly and helpful manner. Working with others within the organization (teachers, administration, etc.) to accomplish defined goals in a timely manner is required.

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull 30-50 lbs; some stooping, kneeling, crouching; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 20% walking, and 60% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Standard Hours are 6:00am to 2:00pm OR 7:00am to 3:00pm current school year plus clean days & 5 hr prep days for St. Augustine’s or other location.

This Job is considered a 10 month job unless otherwise defined.

EXPERIENCE - Job related experience may be required. Familiarity with all HACCP requirements and knowledge & skills related to food, sanitation, safety, and aware of all ServSafe temperatures and logs.

HEALTH - Must have an annual physical prior to the beginning of every School Year

EDUCATION - High School diploma or equivalent

EQUIVALENCY - None Specified

REQIRED TESTING – Drug Testing is required

Certificates & Licenses – Non specified
Continuing Educ. / Training – As required

Clearances – Full background (state, federal, Dept of Health and Human Services and others as required)
FLSA STATUS – Non Exempt
