REPORTS TO: Building Principal QUALIFICATIONS: 1.MA in School Counseling2.NH Certification in School Counselor3.Knowledge of human behavior theories and models of counseling and career development, and social and cultural diversity4.Skills in collaboration, consultation, and intervention5.Abilities in research, assessment and organizational goals6.Ability to work with staff, students, parents, and the community7.Knowledge of laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling professionJOB DESCRIPTION: Utilizing leadership, advocacy and collaboration, school counselors promote student success, provide preventative services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addressed academic, career, and personal/social development for all students. The job comprised of a 2/3rd guidance role and a behavior roll.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Counsel students to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their educational or vocational situationsProvide crisis intervention to students when difficult situations occur at schoolsConfer with parents or guardians, teacher, administrators, and other professionals to discuss students progress, resolve behavioral, academic and other problems and help determine priorities for students and their resource needsMaintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulationsPrepare students for later educational experiences by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasksEvaluate students abilities, interests, and personality characteristics using tests, records, interviews,, or professional sourcesIdentify cases of domestic abuse or other family problems and encourage students or parents to seek additional assistance from mental health professionalsCounsel students regarding educational issues, such as course and program selection, class scheduling and registration, school adjustment, truancy, study habits, and career planningProvide special services such as alcohol and drug prevention programs and classes that teach students to handle conflicts without resorting to violenceConduct follow-up with counselees to determine if their needs have been metInstruct students in career development techniques such as job search, application strategies, resume writing, and interview skillsCollaborate with teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of school programs and in the preparation of master schedules for curriculum offeringsAssess needs for assistance such as rehabilitation, financial aid, or additional vocational training, and refer students to the appropriate servicesPrepare reports on students and activities as required by administrationTeach classes and present self-help or information sessions on subjects related to education and career planningReview transcripts to ensure that students meet graduation or college entrance requirements and write letter of recommendationProvide students with information on such topics as college degree programs and admission requirements, financial aid opportunities, trade and technical schools, and apprenticeship programsRefer students to degree programs based on interests, aptitudes, or educational assessmentsCollaborate with Extended Learning Opportunity Supervisor to establish contacts with employers to create internship and employment opportunities for studentsProvide information for teachers and staff members involved in helping students or graduates identify and pursue employment opportunitiesAttend meetings, educational conferences, training workshops and serve on committeesConduct all bullying and harassment investigations; complete necessary documentation of bullying and harassmentConfer with building administration regarding bullying and harassment investigations.Work with Student Service Support Room (SSR) to handle all counseling related (Tier 1, 2, 3 ) behaviorsdetermine and execute therapeutic interventions and counseling for those students identified by SSR room.Terms of Employment: Per agreement between WRSB and WRTA Evaluation: Per agreement between WRSB and WRTA
