What are the responsibilities and job description for the Infant Room Teacher position at Winter Haven Montessori?

We are looking for a qualified Infant Room Teacher to care for children 3 months to 1 year of age. This environment is a peaceful and safe place for our youngest children. With opportunities to develop movement and language and cultivate their natural passion for exploration and discovery. A teacher must have a great love and patience for children. Qualifications needed to teach them effectively include knowledge of best practices and Montessori methods. The goal is to contribute to the healthy mental and emotional development of the child so they can feel safe and loved and more easily acclimate in the next level of education. In this classroom, a teacher would be working side by side with two additional qualified teachers making a total of three teachers per classroom. Each teacher is responsible for four infants.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and loving environment for infants
  • Give bottles or feed solid foods to children as provided by parents
  • Change diapers as needed
  • Soothe children by singing to and cuddling them
  • Supervise children on the floor as they play with age appropriate toys
  • Put children in cribs for nap time
  • Employ a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, media etc.) to teach children
  • Observe each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self-esteem
  • Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through a carefully constructed curriculum (identify shapes, numbers or colors, do crafts etc.)
  • Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards

Skills

  • 45 hour mandated DCF child care courses completed
  • Certification in infant and adult CPR
  • FDLE background screening
  • Excellent understanding of the principles of child development and Montessori methods
  • Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
  • Excellent communication and instructional skills
  • Cool-tempered, friendly and reliable

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $12.00 per hour

  • 8 hour shift

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Early Childhood Education: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Childcare: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • CPR Certification (Preferred)
  • Child Development Associate Certification (Preferred)
  • FDLE background screening (Preferred)
