Works under the general supervision of the School Operations Manager or Senior Building Custodian.Paid per current union contract.Responsibilities: Ensure that all buildings areas are kept clean and in proper working order. Clean individual classrooms and hallways including vacuuming when needed, sweep, mop and disinfect. Performs proper maintenance of school buildings and facilities and proper grounds maintenance.Address staff and student needs and issues as they arise.Keep current with school security policies and procedures.Follow maintenance/custodial checklist for daily duties.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.Maintains school buildings, inside and outside; cleans and disinfects rooms, washrooms and toilets; vacuums and cleans rugs; washes woodwork and windows; cleans and disinfects floors; strips and waxes floors; empties trash; dusts, mops, replaces light bulbs, and performs related cleaning functions.Occasionally might monitor heating boilers and other systems, such as cooling systems, controls temperature. Monitors all power equipment; opens building; responds to requests from school principals, administration and teachers, moves furniture and delivers supplies.Provides preventive and general maintenance of the structures and grounds of school facilities.Maintains grounds surrounding buildings by picking up and disposes of litter; removes snow and ice and clears walkways.Work occasionally requires lifting of up to 50 lbs. or more (i.e. furniture, ladders, etc.)Performs similar or related work as required, or as situation dictates.
