Introduction

The  Central Wisconsin Center (CWC)  is recruiting for four Food Service Assistant 2 positions. CWC provides short-term and residential services to assist people living with intellectual disabilities in acquiring the personal skills needed to reach their highest potential. CWC is located at 317 Knutson Drive on the North side of Madison.

Position Summary

The Food Service Assistant positions will provide portion prepared food items from bulk containers to individual trays, snack bags and bag lunches based on diet as printed. These positions are also responsible for cleaning equipment and utensils, assisting with basic food preparation and transportation of food from the Central Kitchen to resident living units, cleaning food production equipment, storing food supplies and performing all custodial, sanitation and related tasks in the Food Service Department.  

Salary Information

The starting salary is $16.18 per hour or the minimum at the time of appointment, plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule and range is 03/09. A 12-month probationary period is required.

A $2000 sign-on bonus applies to those with no prior state service in the last five years; must stay with CWC for a minimum of one year to retain the bonus. Bonus will be split, $1000 upon hire and $1000 after completing probation.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction.

Job Details

Shifts for these positions at CWC are from 6:00 am - 2:30 pm or 11:00 am - 7:30 pm and every other weekend.

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by CWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

These positions have physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting up to 30 lbs., pushing 100 lb. food carts, climbing ladders, bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling, stooping, standing, sitting and working on feet for extended periods of time.  Applicants may be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements.

Employees are required to provide documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by their start date. Exceptions will be granted to those who obtain an approved medical or religious accommodation or those who provide documentation requiring a delay in receiving the vaccine.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required  I-9  form upon hire.

Qualifications

This position requires the following:

  • Ability to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include weekends, holidays, early morning or early evenings, and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and accept work assignment changes as needed.
  • Experience with basic sanitation, hand washing and safety standards in a food service environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing.

In addition, well-qualified candidates will have:

  • Previous food service or production experience.
