What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Advocate position at Wisconsin Rapids Family Center Inc.?
- Provide support to shelter residents on evenings, overnights and weekends (staff can sleep on overnight shifts, as the work allows).
- Two week rotation: Week 1 (Sunday 4pm-8am); Week 2 (Monday 4pm-8am, Saturday 4pm-8am). Average of 24 hours/week.
- Occasional daytime shifts may be available, but are not required.
- Occasional holiday shifts required.
- Respond to calls and walk-ins as needed, admitting clients to shelter when appropriate.
- Provide a safe, clean and comfortable environment for sheltered clients.
- Document calls, walk-ins and client contacts in client services database.
- Assist with issues related to communal living.
- Maintain established FCI policies and procedures.
- Provide non-judgmental, non-directive support for FCI clients.
- Maintain a professional, confidential relationship with all clients.
- Answer 24-hour hotline.
- Provide empathic emotional support to residents and their children.
- Interact in a professional/cooperative manner with other staff members and volunteers.
- Accept and process in-kind donations after hours.
