Join our team as an Engineer in Training (EIT) in our Charlotte, NC office.  


Staff Professional IIs are technical full-time positions to support assigned engineers, planners, or other technical positions to develop asset management and planning solutions for a wide range of infrastructure projects related to water industry. Under the direction of a learned professional, Staff Professional IIs provide technical support and translate technical concepts into documentable technical solutions. 


Duties and Responsibilities


Project and Client Management

  • Under general supervision, assist in management of projects and communications with clients.
  • Participate in project meetings, presentations, workshops and create agendas and/or subsequent documentation.
  • Communicate with project managers of any significant challenges, deviation from procedures and metrics, or incidents that occur on projects.
  • Understand scope of work, schedule, and budget.

Technical

  • Assist project managers/senior professionals with planning, development and execution of asset management projects related to water/wastewater infrastructure.
  • Provide support in the development and technical delivery of asset management plans. Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • collect and analyze various types of data related to utility GIS, condition assessments, operation and maintenance tools and procedures, etc.;
  • perform gap assessments;
  • asset inventory compilation;
  • condition and consequence of failure assessments;
  • life cycle cost analysis;
  • operation and maintenance programs;
  • and capital investment planning.
  • Assist in the review and analysis of condition assessment data (CCTV, smoke/dye testing, flow metering, leak detection, etc.).
  • Assist and provide recommendations for improvements related to water and wastewater infrastructure problems such as inflow and infiltrations, sanitary sewer overflows, water leaks/losses, pressure issues, etc.
  • Under supervision, perform onsite field activities such as site inspections to gather information and assess the condition of assets.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports, presentations, workshops and other project delivery materials.
  • Ability to collaborate with other departments for successful completion of projects.
  • Communicate and interact with clients and internal team.
  • Complete deliverables and project scope responsibilities within assigned budget and schedule.
  • Organize and maintain all revisions of project-related information per our Company policies and procedures and standards.
  • Use various applications to generate maps, reports, or other technical based deliverables based on specific project requirements.
  • Follow technical aspects and policies of the Practice Area and Company.
  • Analyze technical problems; devise new or improved techniques, approaches, and alternative solutions; and communicate those to supervisor for approval and implementation.

Client and Business Development

  • Participate in civic and community events.
  • Seek opportunities for cross-selling to enhance and expand our existing client relationships during and after projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or field of expertise or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years of related industry experience
  • Successful completion of FE Exam or ability to complete/pass the exam within 1 year of employment
  • Knowledge of utility asset management tools, best practices, and principles
  • Understanding of water and wastewater operations
  • Knowledge of capital planning, GIS mapping, hydraulic modeling software a plus
  • Ability to interpret CADD drawings
  • Experience in Microsoft Office applications
  • Possess good data management practices and techniques
  • Self-motivated, engaged, and team-oriented with the ability to work independently
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Execute multiple tasks under tight deadlines and prioritize responsibilities
  • Understand technical planning concepts and methods
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to take direction and learn software applications
  • Demonstrate personal investment in your career
  • Energetic, flexible, confident, and forward thinking


Working Conditions


The assignment may require infrequent evening/weekend work and job site visits outdoors. Candidates should enjoy working in a collaborative, fast-paced, and client-driven environment.


Physical Requirements


The assignment may occasionally require repetitive physical tasks (such as operating a computer), standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time, extended time travelling in a vehicle, and carrying equipment and materials up to 25 pounds.
