What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Analyst (Hybrid/On-Site) position at WMU Homer Stryker, M.D. School of Medicine?

Overview

Employee must have a diverse background concerning data analysis and reporting. This person should understand how to decipher existing data schemas for reporting and analysis; how to translate user needs into reports and dashboards; and how to merge data from disparate systems into usable datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Work with other business units to determine reporting needs and assist building reports and/or dashboards to meet them.
  • Generate documentation on reporting design and data schemas used as needed.
  • Assist with auditing data integrity and consistency of various systems.
  • Availability to work on weekends and evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with a technical major and/or a minimum of one years’ experience in data analysis.
  • Professional experience reporting from relational database systems (e.g. Microsoft SQL, MySQL/MariaDB).
  • Experience in reviewing file-based data (e.g. csv or MS Excel) for consistency and quality.
  • Experience in interviewing business colleagues to define data analysis and reporting needs.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of workflow.
  • Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision.
  • Ability to interpret, comprehend, and transmit complicated and detailed instructions accurately.
  • Experience with central reporting tools for paginated reporting and visualizations.
  • Ability to quickly learn software packages as needed.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing.
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in using personal computer equipment and related software.
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in grammar and spelling skills.
  • Experience training users on basic reporting best practices.
  • Experience adhering to HIPAA/HiTech, FERPA, or 21CFR Part 11 guidelines.
  • Experience reporting Electronic Health Record system data, primarily Epic and/or Cerner.

We train physicians in 10 residencies and five fellowships accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. WMed Health is the clinical practice of the medical school with more than 300 providers offering comprehensive primary care and specialty services in several locations throughout the Kalamazoo and Battle Creek areas. Faculty in the Department of Pathology serve as the Office of the Medical Examiner for counties throughout Michigan and northern Indiana.

 

The W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo serves as the primary educational facility with student study and social spaces, team-based learning halls, faculty and administrative offices, a state-of-the-art Simulation Center accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, basic science research labs, as well as toxicology and forensic pathology labs.

 

WMed builds upon Kalamazoo’s century-long foundation of drug discovery and medical device development with a strategic investment in clinical, laboratory, community, and educational research.
