Women Against Abuse (WAA), is looking for an experienced individual to join the team as a Intake & Hotline Counselor!
WAA, a 501(c)3 nonprofit agency, is Philadelphia’s leading domestic violence advocate and service provider and among the largest domestic violence agencies in the country. The mission of WAA is to provides quality, compassionate and nonjudgmental services in a manner that fosters self-respect and independence in persons experiencing intimate partner violence and to lead the struggle to end domestic violence through advocacy and community education. With over 170 staff, WAA serves over 7,000 individuals each year within residential services (2 - 100 bed safe havens and 15 transitional housing apartments), legal services, hotline counseling, aftercare community-based services, prevention & education, and advocacy.
Responsibilities:
Answer the Hotline as required, providing information and referrals, options counseling, and support to victims of domestic violence, and their children. Will conduct intake to WAA Safe Havens and assist OSH intake staff by assessing the needs of persons presenting for service and arrange for direct access to the DV shelter or other safe options. When no DV shelter beds are available, will provide information related to maintaining safety, available services and connect clients to those services.
All responsibilities are expected to be delivered satisfactorily and with superior customer service and according to Agency standards, including the Sanctuary Model®.
Qualifications:
1. An Associate’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
2. At least one (1) year experience in an advocacy, hotline, crisis or related experience is required.
3. Experience with victims of domestic violence is preferred.
4. Demonstrated effectiveness in crisis intervention is required.
5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population is required.
6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member is required.
7. Demonstrated commitment to service of others is required.
8. Demonstrated proficiency in communication, both verbal and in writing is required.
9. Proficiency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
10. PA Domestic Violence Certification Preferred
Vaccine Mandate Information: All current & future employees of WAA must have the Covid-19 vaccination (2 weeks following the second dose Pfizer or Moderna vaccine AND/OR 2 weeks following the J&J vaccine) by March 18th, We can provide an accommodation with a proven medical or religious exemption.
Post Hire Requirements:
Employment offer and continued employment are contingent upon satisfactory child abuse, criminal and FBI clearances and a pre-employment physical, are required (all related fees will be paid by WAA)
Must be able to attend the mandatory upcoming JARS training (Virtual) on the following days.
