What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at Women's Care, Inc.?
GENERAL SUMMARY: To create a positive first impression about the practice and to show the patient a “we care” attitude. The Medical Assistant is primarily responsible for assisting in the smooth and efficient operation of the provider(s), department(s), and schedule(s), and the provisions of the quality health care to the patient and is usually one of the first and last contacts our patients have with the facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Greets patients, answers phones, document and relay accurate messages in a timely manner using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and forwarding to the provider’s task list/work break.
2. Operates practice management system to schedule appointments and check patient information when necessary
3. Verifies patient and account information and makes necessary corrections and referrals per company policies (collection accounts).
4. Informs patient of any office delays and assist with updating every 30 minutes if delay continues.
5. Rooms patients in EMR and alert the provider to any unusual physical and/or emotional status of the patient and render necessary assistance.
6. Prepares patient for examination (take weight, height, blood pressure, pulse and temperature if indicated, etc.) per department requirements and document in EMR.
7. Assists provider with examination and/or procedure as necessary and provide supportive care for patients including giving instructions regarding the procedure and insuring privacy and safety during the exam.
8. Has a good understanding of practical skills for sterile techniques.
9. Assists in the transportation of patients to other company departments.
10. Schedules and obtains authorization for test, procedures, admissions and surgeries; inform patients of test results per provider’s instructions and document in EMR.
11. Maintains confidentiality of all current and former patients/medical records as required by HIPPA regulations and company policy.
12. Reviews task list throughout the day in EMR and completes assignments as directed by the provider, documents those assignments as completed
13. Assists in the completion of all forms.
14. May be required to assign diagnostic codes and /or CPT codes and enter provider charges into the billing system.
15. Maintains equipment and/or instruments by utilizing appropriate methods of cleaning, disinfecting or sterilizing, and storing.
16. Labels and transports specimens to the laboratory.
17. Maintains examination/procedure room in a neat and orderly fashion.
18. Transports soiled linen to appropriate area.
19. Attends company and departmental meetings and in-services.
20. Maintains proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the company operates in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
21. Complies with company and departmental policies and procedures.
22. Interacts with fellow employees in a way that promotes a harmonious and productive working environment.
23. Acquires the skills/functions to perform the job in an acceptable manner within three months.
24. Completes required continuing education learning.
25. Communicate with Supervisor and Management, any other duties assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
1. High school graduate or equivalent with courses in English and keyboarding/typing.
2. Graduate of a certified medical assistant program with current certification or experience in a hospital or extended care facility.
3. Previous medical/surgical office experience.
4. Mature reasoning ability.
5. Able to follow verbal and written instructions
6. Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, neurology and medical terminology.
7. Ability to operate, including but not limited to computer, Fax machine, copier, and multi-line telephone.
8. CPR certified, or become certified within the first 120 days.
9. Tolerates intermittent physical activities including sitting, walking, standing, stooping, carrying, talking, hearing, seeing, bending, handling, manual dexterity, color, vision, and speed. The degree to which any of these are done or used depends on the technique being used.
10. Able to stand up and sit down at work station, squat and/or stoop, to lift at least 25 pounds.
11. Able to walk and stand for long periods of time.
12. Able to lift/and or transport heavy, sometimes difficult patients.
13. Able to reach for items and supplies above shoulder height.
14. Possesses sufficient visual ability to type on a computer and read small print.
15. Able to hear to talk with patients and general public, answer telephone calls and respond to any audio alarms.
16. Able to work in small office area with stress factors of telephone calls, talking by office staff, and noise generated by computers, printer and fax machines.
