Description
Wood Rodgers is seeking a Controller who will be responsible for overseeing the accounting operations of the company, including the development of staff, accurate financial reporting, and internal controls. This role requires a high level of expertise in accounting principles and practices, a thorough understanding of the architectural & engineering industry, as well as strong leadership skills to manage and develop the accounting team. In other words, this is a roll up your sleeves & get your hands dirty position!
This is a salary, exempt position.
A day in the life as a Wood Rodgers' Controller
While there is no typical day in accounting, there are a few things that you can count on:
- Overseeing all aspects of the Accounting department, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Billing, and Payroll
- Mentoring and developing staff, including managing, hiring, and promoting
- Ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP
- Maintaining internal controls and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
- Ensuring timely and accurate filing of all financial reports and tax filings
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of 10 years’ accounting experience, including 5 years in a supervisory role, preferably in the engineering industry.
- CPA, CGMA, CMA, or a master’s degree in business administration.
- Proficient in BST, Deltek, or other accounting software geared to the AEC industry.
- The ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and management about the finances of the business and justify certain financial recommendations.
- Attention to detail.
- Basic math skills to make accurate calculations and estimates.
- Good understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Organization and project management.
- Extremely proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Offers will be based on several factors, including experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, training, and location. Base pay is just one part of the comprehensive compensation package offered by Wood Rodgers.
