Job Title: Fitness Supervisor

Department: Parks and Recreation

Reports to: Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation

Classification: Nonexempt

Summary: Woodmen Hills Metro District is a quasi-municipal corporation and political subdivision of the State of

Colorado. Located near Peyton Colorado, in the rapidly growing Falcon region, just east of Colorado Springs.

The Fitness Supervisor provides leadership to the administration and supervision of a variety of fitness offerings to meet our community’s needs. These offerings include group fitness classes, personal and small group training, fitness workshops, certification courses, fitness assessments, and body compositions. The Fitness Supervisor will teach on average eight group fitness classes a week, in addition to administrative duties. This position provides leadership for the development, implementation, and assessment of the fitness departments short- and long-range objectives. These objectives include budget development and management, creating and enforcing policy and procedure, facility coordination, equipment lifecycle planning, risk management, and program performance standards/evaluations. This position supervises 5-10 fitness employees in group fitness and personal training. The successful candidate will promote and cultivate a culture of engagement through diverse fitness programming that meets the needs of our community while supporting the mission and values of our department.

Duties and responsibilities

Leadership and Program Management

  • Provides leadership, strategic planning, fiscal management, facility and equipment management, risk management, and assessment of the delivery of the department's fitness programs that includes a comprehensive group fitness, personal training, fitness workshops, certification courses, and community outreach.
  • Responsible for the leadership oversight, development, implementation, management, reporting, and evaluation of program budget including but not limited to revenue, payroll, and operation expenses.
  • Directs, designs, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive high-quality fitness program that meets and balances the needs of the community and provides a positive experience focused on healthy behaviors and well-being through fitness and education activity programs.
  • Directs the organization of the group fitness, personal and small group training, registration process for both in person and virtual classes/sessions.
  • In coordination with colleagues, develops and schedules annual/semester fitness program schedules including facilities, equipment, and marketing.
  • Administers and maintains recreational management software that supports program, event, activity, participant, and management, as well as instructor scheduling.

Group Fitness

  • Responsible for the leadership, coordination, and evaluation of group fitness programs, including a diverse offering of cardio, mind/body, strength, dance, and martial art formats that meet participant needs, skill levels, and safety/risk management guidelines.
  • Responsible for the leadership, coordination, and oversight of group fitness schedule including class implementation, instructor training, and evaluation.
  • Leads the organization, implementation, and evaluation of group fitness instructor certification course based on American Council of Exercise (ACE) Curriculum.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to fitness partnerships and program agreements.
  • Teach on average eight group fitness classes a week.

Personal Training

  • Responsible for the leadership, coordination, and evaluation of personal and small group training programs including diverse offerings that meet participant needs, personal training schedules, maintain personal health history questionnaire, program development, and safety/risk management guidelines.
  • Provides coordination, implementation, and evaluation of fitness assessments and body compositions for clients.
  • Leads the organization, implementation, and evaluation of personal training certification course based on

American Council of Exercise (ACE) Curriculum.

Personnel Management and Student Development

  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, mentors, schedules, assigns responsibilities, and evaluates employees including group fitness instructors and personal trainers.
  • Manages payroll for direct reports with fitness programs and maintain payroll records.
  • Completes annual evaluations and presents coaching and development opportunities throughout the evaluation period to direct reports.
  • Coordinates, implements, and evaluates employee outcome-based training, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Acts in accordance with department and human resources guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Fiscal and Resource Management

  • Provides short and long-range planning and fiscal management related to fitness program administration.
  • Manages and maintains budget in accordance with department and District guidelines to ensure prudent stewardship of resources.
  • Ensure that business functions employ best management practices that are consistent with department and

District standards.

  • Provides oversight and coordinates use of fitness program equipment including purchasing, inventory, maintenance, and replacement planning within industry and manufacturing guidelines.
  • Works collaboratively with department staff to regularly assess appropriate fee structures.
  • Recommends operating and capital reserves projects/purchases by providing research and assessment relevant to area needs and product availability.

Risk Management

  • Facilitates and maintains emergency policies and procedures for fitness programs.
  • Maintains current records of fitness programs and first aid safety equipment as it relates to mandated safety replacements.
  • When emergency situations arise, serve as a first responder, utilize necessary communication, and provide care in accordance with certification perimeters.
  • Recommends policies and procedures that protect the health and safety of our guests.
  • Collaborates with department staff and external partners on decisions related to healthy and safe playing conditions at recreation facilities.
  • Assists with the review and management of incident and accident/injury reports.
  • Collaborates with the facilities operations staff in coordinating operational hours, program maintenance needs, and facility and program reservations and access.

Promotions and Marketing

  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, advertise and promote fitness programs across the District.
  • Reviews fitness programs website information and make sure marketing materials have accurate content.
  • Collaborates with the Recreation Leadership Team in recommending marketing strategies to promote fitness programs, services, and events.

Administrative Duties

  • Responsible for monitoring, compiling, organizing, and analyzing fitness program data collection and reporting, including but not limited to, learning outcomes, assessment plans, and annual reports.
  • Accountable for the identification, development, application, and evaluation of guidelines, policies, and procedures related to fitness program operations in accordance with industry standards and department guidelines.
  • Regularly reviews and updates fitness program handbooks and manuals.
  • Serves on assigned departmental committees to support the mission, vision, and core values of Parks and

Recreation.

  • Attends professional development conferences, workshops, seminars, and advocates for professional development throughout the department to stay abreast of current trends and industry standards.
  • Participates in the development of ideas and suggestions for program, facility, and service improvements.
  • Position is required to attend fitness classes and/or programs and use various facilities and equipment periodically to ensure that they are meeting or exceeding department and industry standards and risk management guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the mission, vision, and core values of Parks and Recreation and the Woodmen Hills Metropolitan District.

Job Competencies

  • Demonstrated experience in risk management and policy development.
  • Demonstrated experience working with budgets.

Required Qualifications:

Certification Requirements

  • Current group fitness instructor and personal training certification through ACE, ASCM, NASM, NSCA, or other nationally recognized agency.
  • American Red Cross Community 1st Aid/CPR/AED certifications are preferred or must be obtained within 3 months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of full-time professional experience within the fitness industry.
  • Demonstrated experience working with budgets.
  • Trainer certification through ACE, ASCM, NASM, NSCA or the ability to obtain within 9 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles.
  • Knowledge of fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm. This includes choreography, music skills, and the ability to operate equipment related to playing music.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to enforce established policy, procedure, and guidelines.
  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Creative, flexible, and innovative team player.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.

Compensation

  • Full Pay Range, $19.00 - $30.00 (hourly).
  • Hiring Range, $19.00 - $22.00 (hourly) based on qualifications and certifications.
  • Annual performance-based raises will be issued at the District’s and Department’s discretion.

Additional Information

  • This position is classified as non-essential.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Primary work location Recreation Center East.
  • Must commit to instructing a minimum of 8 group fitness classes a week.
  • The typical work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 6:00 am – 2:30 pm.
  • Some nights and weekends will be necessary based on program needs.
