SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Electrician specializes in the design, installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems, and is responsible for a wide range of tasks, including preventive and routine electrical maintenance. Additionally, this role will handle various duties, including leveraging testing devices to troubleshoot electrical issues, inspecting various electrical components and adhering to local safety codes. All work is performed on the campus of Worcester Academy.

Flexible hours - up to 20 hours per week

Essential Functions And Key Objectives

  • Maintain electrical systems in campus facilities and residential buildings.
  • Install or replace wiring, lighting, electrical controls, breakers and other electrical components.
  • Inspect and maintain electrical systems.
  • Document the work completed and materials used.
  • Work with other electrical vendors, general contractors, and other maintenance staff.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems and make repairs accordingly.
  • Plan and design layouts of fixtures, wiring pathways and other electrical elements inside campus buildings.
  • Identify and mitigate safety hazards, code violations and other electrical issues.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify repairs or safety hazards and report issues promptly.
  • Make routine electrical repairs such as replacing small motors, lamp replacement, electrical fixtures, and changing ballasts.
  • Participate in keeping Academy facilities operating efficiently and in a safe manner.
  • Responsible for completing work orders or verbal assignments as assigned in a reasonable time frame.
  • Maintain clean work environment during assignment and thorough clean-up after completion.
  • Secure all areas where work has been completed or is in process.
  • Responsible for all tools stored in the Maintenance Shop.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Minimum requirement: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

  • Completion of an electrician apprenticeship
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience
  • Must have relevant industry certification and licensing
  • Must possess a valid MA Driver License

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Strong understanding of wiring, circuits, and other electrical components.
  • Ability to perform electrical tests, read results and diagnose and repair electrical problems.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong work ethic.
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
  • Understanding of local and national codes, regulations and safety procedures.
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical documents.
  • Electrical wiring capabilities to manage problems and troubleshoot solutions.
  • Ability to work from drawings, blueprints and/or schematics.
  • Self-motivated team player with proven organizational and time management skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with employees, residential staff, in an appropriate manner.
  • Attention to detail to ensure that all jobs are completed in a timely manner and any potential hazards or problems are not overlooked.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (both verbally and in writing).
  • Ability to work in a professional, courteous and friendly manner.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a group setting.

This position reports to the Director of Facilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment physical with reasonable accommodations available.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 70 pounds.
  • Must have physical stamina to handle a full shift of activity.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to squat, kneel, lift and bend repetitively and incrementally throughout a scheduled shift.
  • Ability to navigate a walking campus in all forms of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions including extreme cold and heat, rain, snow and wind.
