About the Role

Work Comp Management Services, Inc. (WCMS) is seeking a skilled Chemist 2 to support our manufacturing client in Peoria, IL. In this role, you will perform qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses to ensure quality, process control, and the development of improved products and processes. This is a 100% onsite position in a laboratory environment, offering the opportunity to work with advanced testing instruments and contribute to mission-critical production decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct chemical analyses of organic and inorganic compounds to determine properties, composition, structure, and reactions.
• Improve and customize products, equipment, formulas, processes, and analytical methods.
• Prepare test solutions, compounds, and reagents for laboratory testing.
• Operate and maintain laboratory instruments, ensuring proper calibration and performance.
• Compile, review, and analyze test data to determine equipment efficiency and identify malfunctions.
• Adhere to established quality control procedures and the production flow model.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and team members to interpret test results and improve processes.
• Log sample information into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Perform safety checks, maintain a clean workspace, and follow all site safety requirements.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related discipline preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of manufacturing, laboratory, or operations experience.

Technical Skills:

• Ability to lift at least 35 pounds and stand for extended periods.
• Understanding of good laboratory practices.
• Strong computer skills; Microsoft 365 experience preferred.
• Experience with ICP, FTIR, or GC instruments is a plus.

Soft Skills:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Works well in a team environment.
• Excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
• Safety-focused and detail-oriented.

Additional Information

• Must be able to pass a respirator physical screening and be clean-shaven for respirator fit.
• Steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, and lab coat will be provided.
• This is a backfill position, providing critical support to ongoing production and quality operations.
