Water Global Practice

The Water Global Practice (GP), housed in the Planet Vice-Presidency, was set up in the World Bank Group in 2014. In line with Sustainable Development Goal 6, the Water Global Practice integrates all aspects of water, including water resources management, service delivery in irrigation and water supply and sanitation, and building resilience to water shocks and risks. With a global team of over 400 professionals, the Water GP, in addition to being responsible for investment operations in client countries (with a current dedicated portfolio of $27.8 billion), also provides technical assistance based on its global knowledge acquired from countries across the world. Consistent with SDGs 6 and 17, the World Bank's Water GP works towards global water security in partnership with client governments, other international organizations, the private sector, and civil society.

Duties and accountabilities:

The 2030 WRG External Affairs Officer will provide expert advice and technical support to the trust fund manager and staff, and provide communications support to the GD front office, GP global unit, and Water GP comms lead. Specific tasks include:
• Guide the implementation of a communication’s strategic roadmap for Fiscal Year 2025 and beyond.
• Manage the development process of the 2030 WRG annual report.
• Manage the development of a new external website for the Trust Fund.
• Support the development of communication assets to advance conversations with current and prospective partners.
• Manage the Trust Fund’s visibility and engagement at relevant high-level external events (World Bank Annual Meetings, UNGA, COP29, UNCCD COP16, Davos Annual Meetings, trust fund Governing Council and Steering Board meetings), and provide support to relevant country-level high-level engagements.
• Drafting talking points, and strategic key messaging for World Bank leadership as well as for relevant trust fund donors at various levels of management.
• Write and edit impact stories, blogs, social media messages for the trust fund channels on X and LinkedIn, as well as coordinate inputs for the trust fund website, monthly newsletters, etc.

Selection Criteria

• Master’s degree with 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
• Familiarity with sustainable development thematic areas including water and climate is highly desirable.
• Project management experience: able to demonstrate good judgment in prioritizing multiple demands, often arising on short notice.
• Excellent communication skills (English), including the ability to speak persuasively and present ideas clearly and concisely; ability to write quickly/concisely on a variety of topics in a well-structured manner.
• Strong analytical and integrative skills; able to synthesize complex issues and substantial documentation into effective oral and written briefs. 
• High degree of ethics, discretion, tact, and sensitivity in dealing with others and in handling confidential and sensitive information. 
• Demonstrated ability to work flexibly on a range of assignments, adjust to changes in schedule and priorities, juggle concurrent tasks, and work with very tight deadlines. 
• Strong proclivity for teamwork including an open and collegial work style and a high energy level.
