Position Description

Position: Toddler Room Childcare Teacher, Victory Learning Center (VLC)

Supervisor: Director - VLC

Supervisor Employees / Volunteers: No

Position Purpose: The Teacher shall minister to each child as a unique child of God and provide each child with opportunities to develop physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually to his/her full potential in an environment of love, learning and fun.

Position Description: The ideal candidate will be a caring individual who enjoys teaching young children with the ability to lift up to 30 pounds. You will have a GED or H.S. diploma and have completed the Early Childhood courses as designed by the state Child Care authority. You will have the flexibility to work a shift between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm and have reliable transportation to the Child Care center to ensure consistency for the toddlers. A clean drug screen and background check are essential before an offer can be extended.

Days: Monday - Friday

Position Duties:

Daily:

  • Provide a safe and loving environment for the toddlers in his/her care.
  • Have all materials ready for daily interaction and engagement with the children..
  • Take attendance.
  • Carry out the planned play activities for the day.
  • Give the children their cups as provided by parents.
  • Feed toddlers solid foods as age appropriate and provided by parents.

1 WVICC – Position Description

  • Change diapers as needed.
  • Make sure toddlers are loved and cared for..
  • Supervise toddlers on the floor as they play with age-appropriate toys.
  • Put toddlers on mats for nap time.
  • Ensure play, sleep and changing areas are kept clean.
  • Provide a short report to parents/caregiver at the end of the child's day.
  • Remain in the classroom until all students have left or next teacher has arrived.
  • Straighten and clean (wipe tables off, etc.) the classroom and supply areas at the end of the day.
  • Turn off lights.
  • Any other duties determined necessary by the supervising Director.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of the Early Childhood courses as designed by the state Child Care authority.
  • Meet annual professional development requirements, per state regulations.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Caring individual who enjoys teaching young children.
  • Able to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Extended periods of time sitting on the floor.
  • Ability to work a shift in between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm that changes weekly.
  • Reliable transportation to the Child Care center.
  • Great customer service skills to communicate effectively with parents.

Documentation required:

Our licensing agency, the State of North Carolina division of child development and VLC, requires certain documents to be on file for each employee and requirements to be met.

  • CRC Qualification Letter or copies of submitted documents
  • Documentation of Orientation
  • Documentation of In-Service Training

2 WVICC – Position Description
Toddler Room Childcare Full-time Teacher

  • Documentation of Playground Safety Training (If applicable)

  • Documentation of Aquatic Activities Policy Receipt (If Applicable)
  • Each staff member is required to obtain at least 24 hours of training each year. Each year begins June 1st. All employees must obtain 24 clock hours per year. We will offer some in house training. Workshop cost is at your expense. All employees must be certified in CPR and First Aid every three years.

Personnel Records:

Victory Learning Center maintains personnel records for every employee. The information contained in your personnel file is needed to send you email, compute your payroll deductions, and otherwise comply with various state and federal laws and regulations. It is important to both you and VLC that your personnel record is kept accurate and up to date. Therefore, we ask that you immediately notify us, in writing, if there are any changes in the following information:

  • Change of address, telephone number and email address
  • Change in marital status
  • Change in name
  • Change in the person you designated to be notified in case of an emergency
  • Change in the status of your W-4 exemptions
  • Convicted of a felony or any other crime that is related to the provision of childcare

All such information will be treated as highly confidential and will only be available to the employee and those people with a need to know the information.

Attaining references is an important step in the hiring procedure; we will be contacting the references you provide.

Appearance and Dress:

While we respect your individuality, your neat appearance and proper attire are important to our ability to maintain a professional atmosphere and leave a favorable impression with our patrons and visitors. A uniformed look will be required to be worn by all staff. Staff members will need to purchase the VLC shirts to be worn each day. Pants (no athletic), capris, jeans, or shorts (that meet the knee) may be worn. All the above must be hemmed and in good repair with no holes where skin can be seen. Undergarments must be worn. No wet hair. We also strive to maintain a professional atmosphere, and rely on your good judgment in this area. Your clothing should be tasteful, clean, neat, and appropriate for all duties. Tattoos or piercings other than ears are at the discretion of the Director. She has the authority to request that the tattoo be covered or the piercing be removed. (No gauges or industrial bars allowed)

Cell Phone:

The VLC allows cell phones when children are present only in an emergency. Limit all cell phone use to lunch or other breaks. The use of cell phones during your scheduled work time is subject to immediate dismissal. In emergency situations (calling 911) is the only exception to this rule.

Staff Meetings:

Staff meetings will be held each month. Attendance is mandatory. Staff Meeting will be at 6:15

PM the First Monday of the month.

Health Policies:

Staff - The VLC strives to provide children with a facility that is as healthy as possible. Teachers are required to guide children to wash hands frequently. Teachers are also required to regularly wash and disinfect toys and play equipment. The teacher is required to regularly wash and disinfect, tables, chairs, bathrooms, and any other items children use on a regular basis.

Children - Teachers, if you notice an ill child, we advise you to notify the Director immediately so they may handle the situation in the best interest of all students. The child should be removed from the facility when:

1. He/she shows signs of infection such as: fever, vomiting, diarrhea, unknown skin rash, evidence of head lice, severe coughing, wheezing, or other difficulty breathing, or any abnormal behavior

2. Keeping the child in care provides an increased risk to the child or to the other children or adults with whom the child will come in contact with

Discipline and Behavior Management Policy:

Praise and positive reinforcement are effective methods of the behavior management of children. When children receive positive, non-violent, and understanding interactions from adults and others, they develop good self-concepts, problem solving abilities, and self-discipline. Time out:

Time out is the removal of a child for a short period (3-5 minutes) from a situation in which the child is misbehaving and has not responded to other discipline techniques. The “time-out” space, usually a chair is located away from classroom activity but within the teacher’s sight. During

“time-out,” the child has a chance to think about the misbehavior which led to his/her removal from the group. After a brief interval of no more than 5 minutes, the teacher discusses the incident and appropriate behavior with the child. When the child returns to the group, the incident is over and the child is treated with the same affection and respect shown the other children.

Child Abuse Reporting:

We are required by state law to report any incidences of suspected child abuse. Our number one priority here at the VLC is the safety of the children. If you suspect a child has been subjected to abuse or if the child comes to you or another staff member and you overhear the child stating something that is “suspect” to child abuse, you are required to notify the Director immediately.

Development.

5 WVICC – Position Description
Toddler Room Childcare Full-time Teacher

Hours of Operation

The VLC is open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.

The Director as needed may revise hours of operation.

Scheduling will vary depending on the requirements of each position. Scheduled work time may include staff meetings, parent conferences and classroom preparation. All decisions regarding staffing are at the discretion of the Director. All schedules will be decided by the Director. At times, you may be asked to adjust your scheduled work time---it is important that all employees be flexible and willing to work where needed.
